*Footsteps*
Shiho: No matter how many times I listen to Saki's song, I never get tired of it.
Shiho: It does such a great job of drawing you into its world and conveying Saki's thoughts and feelings.
Shiho: With this song...

Saku: I know. How about that other band? They're called... I forgot their name, but they mentioned that they want to debut with a big label...
Saku: You should be able to see them perform if you really wish. Their music has that cute, mainstream pop sound you're after and they even look the part. A band made up of high school girls through and through.
Saku: Honestly, you'll probably have better luck with them than us.
Saku: Oh, now I remember. They're called Leo/need.
Shiho: We're not just trying to go pro...
Shiho: With this song... The song that Saki wrote... We're gonna show everyone that our goal is to play music that moves people's hearts.
Shiho: (We have one month until our next show...)
Shiho: (We need to get this song perfect by then.)
Shiho: We're gonna have to practice harder than ever before, and figure out how to actually go about that...
*Footsteps*

The next day

School SEKAI

Saki: Alright, we finally get to start practicing for our next show!
Saki: I'm ready for whatever! Bring it on! I'm gonna blow everyone away by playing outta this world!
Rin: Haha. You sound so stoked, Sakki.
Saki: That's because our newest song is my absolutely, unequivocally, categorically the best thing I've ever written!
Saki: And it's only become better after working on the arrangement for it with everyone!
Shiho: To be fair, it's become a more technically challenging song than what we're used to playing.
Honami: After all, Shiho, you did do everything you could to make it so this song clearly conveys Saki's thoughts and feelings.
Luka: Hehe. I'm looking forward to seeing how the audience reacts when they hear this song.
Len: Also, how are the lyrics coming along? You're writing them, right, Ichika?
Saki: Oh, I was gonna ask the same thing! How's it going, Ichi...?
Ichika: I finished writing them yesterday and was hoping to hear you guys' opinions.
Ichika: But it did take me a little while to write them since I wanted to cover everything that you were trying to convey in your song...

Ichika: Okay, this might work. I'll type these lyrics in and...
Miku: ——♪ ——♪
Ichika: No, this still isn't right...
Ichika: It becomes so obvious when I get Miku to sing using my lyrics. They just aren't getting Saki's thoughts and feelings across...
Ichika: (Saki wrote, "It hurts," and "I hate this so much," in her songwriting notebook. She even had, "I don't want tomorrow to come"...)
Ichika: (All these things that I can't imagine her saying. And they were scrawled with so much pain that you could feel it just from looking.)
Ichika: She was carrying all this pain and all these memories that I didn't know about...
Ichika: But she said the message I sent helped her get through that, even though my original intention was to chat for a bit...
Ichika: No, these lyrics won't do...
Ichika: (All I did was just wrote down Saki's words and arranged them to the melody of the song.)
Ichika: (Which means there's no point in me writing these lyrics...)
Ichika: I have to use my own words. I need to take her feelings from this song and tell everyone what's really going on...!
Ichika: It wasn't easy, but I managed to finish them, and I really like how they turned out.
Saki: I had no idea...
Miku: But you must've written some great lyrics if you put so much thought into them.
Shiho: Mind showing us what you wrote...?
Ichika: Sure. It's always a little nerve-wracking showing others my lyrics, but...
Ichika: Here they are...
*Paper Rustling*
Ichika: Wh-What do you think...?
Honami: Oh wow... You used very straightforward language like you usually do, Ichika, but I feel my chest tightening with each passing word...
Shiho: So much pain and loneliness... But you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. There's also this sort of warmth that's pushing you along.
Saki: They're incredible, Ichi...
Saki: A lot of words and thoughts came to mind as I wrote my song, but I couldn't string them together very well.
Saki: The lyrics you wrote make so much sense. It's like you knew exactly what I was thinking.
Ichika: Really?
Saki: Yeah. Not only that, your lyrics helped turn my song into our song. Leo/need's song.
Saki: So... I'm really, really glad that you were the one who wrote the lyrics for us again this time, Ichi!
Ichika: Saki...
Ichika: It makes me happy to hear that. And thank you for telling me about what happened back then...
Luka: Hehe. Saki's masterpiece coupled with Ichika's beautiful lyrics means this song's become something quite special.
Honami: Yes, it has. I'm very much looking forward to playing it.
Saki: Me too! I can't wait to practice it and play it in front of people!
Ichika: Oh, about that...
Shiho: Before we start practicing, there's something I need to tell all of you...
Honami: Huh...?
Saki: Did something happen?
Shiho: So...

Saki: ... "A band made up of high school girls through and through."
Honami: Is that how people see us...?
Honami: Yes, we've been telling others that we're trying to go pro, but that's not exactly the image we were going for...
Saki: But we can't really control what others think...
Saki: Our performances still need work, and our songs didn't resonate with that crowd during our last show...
Saki: No, it wasn't just the crowd... Saku didn't really feel anything after hearing us play.
Shiho: Saki...
Saki: So, I wanna show everyone what we're really made of at our next show.
Saki: It's like what Shiho hold Saku... I want our music to do the talking for us.
Saki: I mean, we worked super duper hard on our latest song just for the crowd at that live house... And it turned out this well because we put a ton of thought into it.
Saki: So, I'm really confident about it! I'm sure everyone at that live house...
Saki: Everyone who hears this song is gonna be blown away by it!
Honami: Saki...
Honami: I agree...
Honami: Saku said that we're "a band made up of high school girls through and through" because our music didn't strike a chord with her.
Honami: However, with Saki's new song... I'm sure that audience, as well as Saku, will understand what Leo/need's all about.
Honami: So, I'm also going to do everything I can for our next show. I want to prove to everyone that we're not going pro just for fun...!
Shiho: ...
Len: Sounds like you're all in agreement.
Rin: But Shiho, you really put yourself out there by saying that you girls are gonna show everyone what this band's all about with your music!
Shiho: Yeah, but I don't regret saying that. I couldn't stay silent while someone trashed Leo/need behind our backs.
Ichika: Right. Also...
Ichika: If you didn't speak up, Shiho, I probably would've said something.
Saki: R-Really?!
MEIKO: Hehe. Atta girl. I like your moxie.
Miku: Me too. And we're behind you all the way until your next show...
Shiho: Thanks, everyone.
Saki: Alright, that means we've really gotta practice...!
Ichika: This song has a different melody and tempo compared to what we usually play, so we may want to start by individually mastering how to play it.
Shiho: Yeah... If I'm gonna be honest, at our current level, I'm not sure a month is gonna be enough for us to get it perfect.
Shiho: So, I came up with practice schedules that should allow us to efficiently make that happen.
Honami: Wait, for all of us?
Shiho: Yeah, here. I made copies for all of us, so if you don't mind taking a look.
*Paper Rustling*
Rin: Whoa! Way to go, Shih! You're always so reliable!
KAITO: Impressive... This clearly details what each of you will need to do.
Ichika: If we can get through this, we should be able to put on a perfect show.
Saki: Yeah, it does! This looks really hard at first glance, but I think we'll do just fine as long as we try together!
Honami: I agree...! I'd like to give it a try as well!
Ichika: Then, let's all do our best until our next show.
Saki & Honami: Yeah!
Shiho: (Again, a month probably isn't enough time for us to play this song in a way that really moves everyone in that crowd.)
Shiho: (But I'm not backing down. Not after what we were told that time...)
Shiho: (I'm gonna do absolutely everything I can until the day of our show. I have to support everyone somehow...)

*Bass Playing*
Shiho: (The part that's been giving me trouble lately is coming up next. I need to play each note like I mean it...)
Shiho: (Yeah, there we go...! That might be the best I've done. All that's left is to play in a way that does the feelings put into this song justice and sprint to the finish...)
Shiho: *Sigh*
Shiho: (It's been a while since I last went all out like that.)
Shiho: (I guess, since I've been so busy getting ready for our shows and keeping an eye on how the others are doing during practice that I haven't had much time to practice like this.)
Shiho: I better make full use of times like this... What the...?
*Door Opening*
Shiho: What are you all doing standing outside the door? You should've just come in already.
Honami: B-But it looked like you were trying to focus just now, Shiho...
Ichika: We were really awestruck... We were going to say something, but ended up watching you instead.
Saki: Yeah, you were on a totally different level! The way you played just now was so cool that we sorta got drawn into your world!
Shiho: You're saying this now? You watch me play all the time.
Saki: But you always try to play at our level, right? We got to see the real you just now...
Shiho: Okay, okay. I get what you're saying, so let's start practicing already. We don't have a second to waste.
Saki: Shiho, don't brush us off like that!

Shiho: Now, we've all had a few days to practice on our own, so let's try doing a quick run together today.
Ichika: Okay. I should be fine since I managed to get through the practice schedule you gave me.
Saki: Oh, me too! I also practiced the parts that I found difficult over and over again.
Shiho: Really...? Then, I'll be expecting some good results.
Honami: I'm a little nervous since it's going to be our first time playing this song together... But I'm also excited.
Honami: So, here we go...
*Music*
Shiho: (They all sound totally different...)
Shiho: (They must've practiced a ton until today. They're also playing much cleaner compared to our last show, but...)
Shiho: (Saki's trying so hard to stay in time that it's affecting the way Ichika plays her guitar.)
Shiho: (And Ichika's doing her best to stay in rhythm with Honami...)
Shiho: Honami, you're going a bit too fast with the bass drum.
Honami: *Gasp* I-I'm so sorry.
Shiho: Why don't we try again from the top? Saki, Ichika, I think you two are being too careful of what others are doing.
Shiho: It's not necessarily a bad thing, but worrying too much will mean that you won't be able to play at your best. So, just keep that in mind.
Ichika: Okay...!
Saki: I-I'll be careful!
Shiho: Alright, once more from the top. Honami, count us in.

Ichika: We can't seem to get it right... Even after so many attempts...
Shiho: Yeah... I think it's a combination of still needing to master it individually and lacking the technical skills for some of the finer parts.
Shiho: It's clear that you all practiced a lot, but you sound a bit lost when we play together since you don't have it completely down yet.
Saki: R-Right... I felt ready when I was practicing on my own, but I kept doubting myself while we were playing just now...
Honami: Me too. I get so worried every time I miss a beat that I end up rushing ahead...
Ichika: Does this mean that we need to practice more by ourselves instead of trying to play it together...?
Shiho: But you all practiced a ton already, right? I feel that we should think of something else instead of repeating the same thing.
Saki: Yeah. And we don't have much time. So, what should we do...?
Shiho: (Maybe the practice schedules were a little too much for them.)
Shiho: (Still, what else can we do? I can conceivably try teaching them one by one, but I don't know much about other instruments besides bass. We'd be wasting too much time...)
Shiho: (If only there was someone knowledgeable about various instruments we could ask...)
Shiho: Oh...
Ichika: Shiho?
Shiho: I think I've got an idea...
Shiho: So, Miku... We'd like you and the others to do some intense training with us.
Miku: Intense training?
Shiho: Yeah. All of you can play just about any kind of instrument, right?
Shiho: I have a feeling that our individual parts still need some work, so if you could all teach us one-on-one...
Rin: Wait, we get to be your teachers?!
Luka: Oh, I like this idea. Teaching you girls one-on-one should lead to some nice improvements.
MEIKO: But how intense do you want this training to be? It's not going to be as simple as coming over to SEKAI, practicing and going home afterwards, right?
Shiho: Exactly. We don't have much time left until our next show...
Shiho: So, I want to do as much as possible. During the week, I want us to come straight here after school, and stay over on weekends.
Len: S-Seriously?! That sounds like a training camp!
Rin: But having a sleepover sounds really fun☆
KAITO: Rin, they're not doing this for fun...
Rin: I... I know that!
Shiho: I know I'm asking a lot but... Would you help us out...?
Saki: I-I'd like to ask the same! We need all of you guys' help if we're gonna put on the best show ever...!
Miku: I don't mind. Especially if it means helping you girls out.
Ichika: Miku...
MEIKO: I agree. Teaching should also be a beneficial experience for us, so I'm in.
Len: Yeah, this sounds like a great opportunity! It feels more like a joint practice than a training session.
Rin: Yeah, totally! I can't wait to practice together♪
Saki: ...! Thank goodness...!
Shiho: Thank you all very much.
Honami: Still, we're so blessed... We essentially each get to have our own personal tutors.
Saki: Yeah! I'm gonna make the most of this opportunity by learning as much as I possibly can from you guys!
Ichika: Me too. Let's do everything we can so that we'll be ready for our next show!
Miku: Hehe. That means we'll have to do our best to make that goal a reality.
Shiho: Thanks, we really appreciate it.
Shiho: I was thinking that we could start tomorrow. Would you and the others be okay with that, Miku...?
KAITO: In that case, we may want to discuss how we're actually going to teach them...
Luka: I agree. Let's do that right after we're finished here.
Shiho: In the meantime, we'll keep practicing like normal while also preparing for you guys' tutelage.
Ichika, Saki & Honami: Okay!
Rin: (We get to spend entire days practicing, and even have sleepovers...)
Rin: (This is gonna be so much fun♪ I can't wait for tomorrow!)

Shiho: Alright, let's get started with our first day of training...
Honami, Ichika & Saki: Okay!
Shiho: Oh, since this is our first day, I'd like to start by explaining what we'll actually be doing.
Shiho: As you all probably know already, our next show is roughly one month from now and we'll be practicing in preparation for that...
Shiho: For the next two weeks, Miku and the others will be working with us one-on-one to raise our skill levels for the instruments we each play. Then, for the following two weeks until our show, we'll be working on playing as a band.
Shiho: Also, with regards to how we'll be spending each day, we'll gather each morning to report on how we're all doing and break off into pairs for each instrument...
Shiho: I'm thinking that we can have evenings to ourselves after each practice.
Saki: So we've got to keep the chatting to a minimum and focus on practicing as much as possible!
Len: Sounds like a plan.
Rin: Yup! It sounds pretty intense already!
Honami: So, until the end of these first two weeks, we'll only be working on playing our respective instruments...
Honami: And not playing together until the third week, right...?
Ichika: I think we'll know then just how much we've improved individually...
Saki: Reuniting once more after spending a long time training...
Saki: This is so exciting! It's like the story in a manga I borrowed from Tsukasa a while back!
Honami: Hehe. Oh, Saki.
Shiho: That's one of your most endearing qualities, Saki...
Shiho: But please don't forget that we absolutely have to make our next show a success.
Shiho: Because if we don't find a way to get through to that crowd with our next performance, they probably won't give us another chance.
Shiho: Which means... We won't be able to play at that live house ever again.
Saki: Right... And I understand that completely.
Saki: But, at the same time... I still want us to have fun...
Saki: I mean, Leo/need isn't really about sad songs like the one we're working on right now. I believe we're a band that should be playing fun and exciting music!
Shiho: Saki...
Shiho: You're right...
Shiho: As important as practicing is, we can't forget that we're trying to reach others through our music.
Shiho: Anyway, shall we get to practicing?
Miku: Oh, mind if I say something before we do?
Honami: Is something the matter?
Miku: As we mentioned yesterday, we discussed how we'll actually be teaching each of you.
Miku: We'll still be teaching you one-on-one, but we thought that we could swap places each day.
Saki: Huh? Swap places each day...? Does that mean you're all gonna teach us how to play our instruments?!
Luka: Yes. Being exposed to various styles should allow you to see things from different perspectives, no?
Saki: Th-That's true...
Saki: But we're already asking so much of you guys. This is turning into one of those buffets where you get to eat as much expensive beef and crab as you like!
Shiho: Not the example I would've chosen...
Shiho: But are you sure about this...? We really are asking a lot of you guys. What you're suggesting sounds like a ton of work.
MEIKO: You girls are doing everything you can, so we thought that we should as well.
Rin: It sounds super fun, so I'm all for it!
Shiho: I see... Thank you all very much.
Saki: Alright, let's make the most of our first day of training! Here... We...
Honami & Ichika: Go!

*Bass Playing*
Shiho: Good... I'm playing the part that was giving me trouble just fine now.
Shiho: (But I kinda want a second opinion. I wonder who's assigned to me today?)
Shiho: I guess I'll just have to wait... For now, I'll keep practicing and checking off all the things that I need to do.
Shiho: I have to get this perfect and play in a way that really moves everybody in that crowd...
Shiho: Let's make that happen...
*Bass Playing*
Shiho: (No, I'm not getting this part right. The way I'm playing doesn't match this song's feel.)
Shiho: (I won't be able to get through to that crowd if I keep getting stuck in places like this...)
Shiho: (I have to find a better sound... A sound that actually goes with this song. Not just for this part. I should take another look at the other parts and...)
Shiho: Huh...? KAITO, when did you...?
KAITO: Please, continue...
Shiho: What?
KAITO: Don't mind me... Please, keep playing.
Shiho: Okay...
*Bass Playing*
KAITO: ...
Shiho: (Wait, this is that part from earlier... No matter how many times I play it, I can't seem to get it to sound right.)
Shiho: (Based on this song's feel, it needs to sound more somber. As it stands, I'm plucking too hard, but my bass is gonna lose its presence if I pluck any softer...)
*Bass Playing*
Shiho: ...! This sound...!
KAITO: Did that seem right...?
Shiho: It's perfect. That's exactly what I've been trying to produce...!
Shiho: (I have to try copying it before I forget...)
Shiho: (It went like...)
*Bass Playing*
KAITO: Yes, that's it...
Shiho: (I'm a lot closer... But it's not quite what KAITO played just now.)
Shiho: Again...!
*Bass Playing*

*Bass Playing*
KAITO: Why don't we take a little break...?
Shiho: Oh, okay...
Shiho: Thanks to you, KAITO, I was able to figure out how to play the part that was giving me so much trouble. I really appreciate it.
KAITO: I see... I'm glad I could help.
KAITO: ...
Shiho: (KAITO's so cool and calm...)
Shiho: (Also, without realizing it, five and a half hours have passed since I started...)
Shiho: (And yet, KAITO doesn't seem tired at all... He probably suggested taking a break for my sake.)
Shiho: (At the same time, there isn't a whole lot else for me to do...)
*Bass Playing*
Shiho: (Oh... The way KAITO plays his bass...)
Shiho: (It's so soothing... Like being wrapped in a delicate blanket.)
Shiho: (I wanna play like that too...)
*Bass Playing*
KAITO: ...!
*Bass Playing*
Shiho: (This is nice... I hardly ever get to play bass with someone else.)
Shiho: (Huh? Did he improvise just now...?)
Shiho: (If that's how you're gonna play...!)
Rin: I came to have a peek at how everyone else was...
Rin: But Shih and KAITO look like they're doing just fine! I feel pretty lucky too since you don't get to see bass-only sessions all that often...
Miku: Rin, what are you doing?
Rin: Wahhh!!
Rin: D-Don't scare me like that, you two!
Miku: I wasn't trying to.
Ichika: That sounds like...somebody playing the bass? So, the people in this classroom are...
Ichika: Oh...
Miku: They look like they're having fun.
Ichika: Yeah, and... I'm glad that they're not holding back.
Rin: *Sigh* Now that you've seen everything, you two know this means we're in cahoots now, right?
Miku: I don't remember there being a rule that forbade us from seeing what everyone else is doing...
Miku: Also, Rin, aren't you supposed to be working with Saki? You're not skimping out on your duties, are you...?
Rin: *Gasp* Oh no!
Rin: B-Break's about to end! I wasn't skimping! Honest!
Rin: I have to get back to Sakki! I'll see you both later!
*Hurried Footsteps*
Miku: Oh, Rin... Is she really going to be okay?
Ichika: Miku, let's get back to practicing.
Miku: What? But you just said that you wanted to take a break...
Ichika: I know, but seeing Shiho practice made me want to do the same.
Ichika: She's already an incredible musician and trying this hard. That means I need to keep doing everything I can.

Honami: Okay...!
Luka: You're doing a little too much here and there, Saki. I know this song means quite a lot to you, which in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, but playing the keyboard is very different rhythmically from playing the piano.
Luka: You don't need to think about this when you're playing piano solo, but... Try to focus on playing in time with everyone else.
Saki: G-Got it...!
Len: You seem to fall out of rhythm when you're about to tremolo pick, Ichika. I'm guessing that you're feeling a bit rushed during those parts, but try playing them one note at a time instead.
Ichika: You're right... Let me try that one more time...!
Shiho: (It's already this late... But I can still hear everyone practicing.)
Shiho: (It sounds like a mess of different sounds...)
Shiho: But it's also kinda nice...

Shiho: Someone's in a good mood...
Saki: That's because we haven't gone out together like this in so long! It's been all practice and no play with us lately!
Shiho: Yeah, I guess so... But we should get what we need and head back ASAP. The others are probably still practicing.
Saki: Right...! While we're out buying stuff, Ichi and Hona might be making huge improvements!
Saki: Alright, let's buy what we need and head straight back! We just have to get strings for Ichi and...
???: Oh, are you out shopping?
Shiho: Huh...?
Saki: Y-You're...!
Saku: I wasn't expecting to see you two here.
Saku: Also, do you usually go shopping at this time? It seems a bit strange.
Shiho: ... We're allowed to go shopping whenever we like.
Saku: Yes, that's true, but you didn't seem like the type to go out and about at night is all. Just like the show the other day...
Saku: Oh, that reminds me. Didn't you say then that you're going to let your music do the talking for you during your next performance...?
Shiho: What about that...?
Saku: I felt that I should go and watch your band since you were willing to say such a thing. Incidentally, I asked the staff at that live house and...
Saku: As it turns out, it's the day my band was also thinking about playing.
Saki: What...?
Saku: So, unfortunately, I won't be able to watch alongside the audience. However...
Saku: I'm looking forward to seeing your band play. I'll be watching from backstage.
Saki: H-Hang on, that means...
Saku: See you then.
*Footsteps*
Shiho: *Sigh* She really only comes in to say what she wants and disappears right after.
Saki: ...
Shiho: Saki...?
Saki: Huh...? S-Sorry, I think I spaced out for a bit there.
Saki: I wasn't expecting to hear that Saku's band would also be playing that day... It kinda startled me.
Saki: This means we absolutely have to do everything we can until the day of the show!
Shiho: Yeah, but...

Ichika: So, we'll be playing on the same stage as Saku and anemone again...?
Honami: I... I see...
Ichika: I-I'm not sure why, but I feel a little nervous. Even though we just performed in a show with them...
Honami: M-Me too. My heart's already starting to race...
Saki: ...
Shiho: (It isn't just Saki...)
Shiho: (They're all nervous about having to play on the same stage as anemone.)

Shiho: (Seeing how they're at a different level compared to us was an eye-opener. I get that. But...)
Shiho: I understand how you all feel.
Shiho: But we've gotta do this.
Shiho: Yes, we're not as good as them, and it's going to feel really uncomfortable trying to perform on the same stage because of what happened during our last show...
Shiho: But... If we carry these feelings onto that stage, we probably won't be able to play in a way that moves that crowd.
Saki: Oh...
Shiho: So, we have to build up enough confidence for ourselves to overcome these feelings of doubt.
Shiho: We have to practice until we can firmly say, "anemone has nothing on us. Our song's gonna move the hearts of everyone in that crowd."
Shiho: I mean, that's what we've been doing this entire time, right?
Saki: Shiho...
MEIKO: I agree with Shiho...
MEIKO: You're all practicing as hard as you can right now because you want to show everyone what your music is really about, yes?
MEIKO: Also, isn't your goal as Leo/need to play music that moves people's hearts?
MEIKO: If so... That shouldn't change because of a band that you suddenly encountered. anemone, was it?
Ichika: ... Right.
Ichika: We're practicing because we want everyone who listens to our songs to be really moved by them...
Saki: Thanks, Shiho...
Saki: I was sure that this song would really resonate with that crowd...
Saki: But being reminded of the way anemone played made me really scared... Because I know I'm nowhere near their level.
Honami: Me too... But you're right, Shiho... We won't be able to play well at all if we let these feelings dominate us.
Honami: So, I'm going to keep practicing... I want to put on a performance that I can feel proud of!
Rin: That's the spirit! I'm sure you girls are gonna put on the perfect performance during your show!
Len: It sounds kinda fake when you say it, Rin...
Rin: It's not fake at all! I'm sure of it because I've seen just how hard they've been practicing lately!
Rin: They've really been putting in the effort. Ichi cut her finger after playing her guitar too much and I heard that Hona cracked one of her drumsticks!
Saki: What?! Hona, you cracked a drumstick?!
Honami: I'd been using it for quite a long time... But I bought a replacement, so it's okay.
Saki: Okay...
Saki: I was worried for a second that you went a little overboard and became super buff!
Honami: B-Buff?!
Ichika: In such a short period? That'd be really impressive...
Shiho: Also, Ichika, is your finger okay...?
Ichika: Yeah, it's okay. Unfortunately, it's proof that I haven't developed thick enough calluses yet.
Saki: Hang on, why are we only talking about Ichi and Hona...?
Saki: I've been practicing really hard too! Like really super extra hard! Honest!
Shiho: No one's doubting you there.
Ichika: Exactly. We don't all need red badges of courage.
Saki: Y-Yeah, I know! But...!
Luka: Well, what if I jumped in by saying Saki made fairly quick work of what was giving her trouble?
Shiho: Is that true?
Luka: Yes. Saki's been playing the piano since she was very little, and she seemed to be subconsciously trying to play the keyboard the same way.
Luka: For example, when playing the piano, you want your tone to reflect how you're feeling. But you don't necessarily have to do that on the keyboard.
Luka: And Saki's such a wonderful student. She quickly realized how big a difference these little details can make, practiced as much as she could and overcame this challenge.
Saki: Yay! I got praised!
Honami: Hehe. Good for you, Saki.
Shiho: (They're all working a lot harder than I expected... With no small amount of optimism.)
Shiho: (If we can keep this up... I'm sure we'll be able to get through to that crowd.)
Shiho: Let's keep doing our best, everyone...
Shiho: And keep doing everything we can until our show.
Ichika: Shiho...
Saki: Yeah, of course! We're gonna blow that crowd away during our next show!
MEIKO: Then, shall we break into our practice groups?
Miku: Okay. Who gets to be with who today?

A few hours later

*Keyboard Playing*
Len: Yeah, that sounds a lot better. What you're trying to express now is much clearer...
Len: Looks like practicing these parts every day is really starting to pay off!
Saki: Yeah! And I have you and the others to thank, Len! I'm finally getting the sort of sound I wanted!
Len: Hey, how many times do I have to tell you? Saki, you're able to play this well because you put in the work.
Saki: Hehe. I really appreciate you saying that!
Len: No problem. And it's not just you. All of you have improved so much since I first heard you play.
Saki: All of us...?
Saki: Right. We've all been trying our best.
Saki: Thanks, Len, it's nice to actually hear that! I sometimes get to hear everyone practicing while I get ready to leave, but it's kinda hard to tell how much we've improved.
Len: That means you must be really looking forward to playing together and seeing how much you've improved as a band.
Saki: Yup! But I'm also worried about not being as good as everyone else, so...
Len: So, you wanna practice more... Right?
Len: You girls have all been saying the same thing. Almost as if you planned it beforehand.
Saki: Hehe. That's Leo/need for you! Even when we're separated, we think as one!
Len: But try not to go overboard, okay...? I know that band's been on your mind lately. anemone, right? I'd rather not see your hard work go to waste by you getting sick over them.
Saki: Yeah, you're right... It's already pretty late, so I think I'll call it a day and get in a good night's rest.
Saki: So, Mr. Len, thank you for today's lesson!
Len: Sure thing! I'll be looking forward to the next time I get assigned to you!
Saki: *Yawn* Another hard day of practice...
Saki: Oh! Hi, Hona! Are you about to head home too?
Honami: Oh, Saki. Hello. Yes, I am... But...
Honami: You seem awfully sweaty. Are you feeling okay...?
Saki: Huh? No, I'm fine! My body's just really warm after practicing all afternoon! If anything, I feel great lately!
Honami: Okay, that's good to hear... I suppose it's only natural to get sweaty after practicing for so long.
*Bass Playing*
Saki: This sound... Is Shiho playing her bass?
Honami: I think you're right... But this is different from the way she played at the studio the other day.
Saki: Yeah...
Saki: Wanna go take a quick peek?
*Bass Playing*
Honami: Wh-Whoa...!
Saki: Shiho's bass... It sounds so alive! And really...
Saki: Fun...!
Saki: She's sooo cool!
Honami: Yes! It's almost as if her bass is singing. I can't turn away...
Saki: She must've practiced so much until this point...
Saki: We've gotta do our best to keep up with her!
Honami: Right... Getting to Shiho's level won't be easy, but let's do everything we can to make that happen...!
Honami: All so we can play our new song in the best condition possible!
Saki: Yeah! Let's do it!
Ichika: (Keep in mind what Miku said and...)
*Guitar Playing*
Ichika: (Okay, that sounded pretty good. But I still don't feel too great about the chorus after this part...)
Ichika: (I have to keep practicing... A lot... Until I feel absolutely confident about my ability to perform...)
Luka: She's still at it, even after practicing so much today...
MEIKO: Yes... I told her that she should call it a day, but she said that she wants to master the part that she's finally been able to wrap her mind around.
Luka: I see...
Luka: I hope all the girls' hard work pays off in the end. Ichika included.
MEIKO: It will be.
MEIKO: So, let's stay faithful and keep watching over them.

School SEKAI

Shiho: As a band...

Rin: Heya, Shih! Let's get started with today's practice♪
Shiho: Huh?
Rin: Hm? Is something wrong?
Shiho: No, nothing's wrong...
Shiho: (I thought I was gonna get KAITO again today, but I guess not...)
Rin: If you say so, Shih.
Rin: Anyway! Let's get straight to practicing!
Rin: Since you're gonna be practicing as a band, you girls need to get your respective parts down perfect today☆
Shiho: Right... I was just thinking the same thing, so...
Shiho: I want you to tell me, Rin. How are the others doing?
Rin: Awesome! I'm sure tomorrow's gonna go great!
Rin: Because they're all trying really, really, really hard...!
Rin: I'm gonna be honest... I didn't fully comprehend at first just how serious you girls were about making your next show a success.
Rin: When I first heard about these training sessions, I thought, "We're gonna get to spend entire days practicing," and, "This is gonna be so much fun!"
Rin: But I realized as time went on that I had the wrong idea. As I practiced with all of you...
Rin: I realized how serious you all were.
Rin: Wow, we played so much together!
Saki: Yeah, we did. We've been at it for like four hours now.
Rin: What?! That long?! We should probably take a break now!
Saki: Yeah...
Rin: Oh, Sakki, that reminds me! Didn't you say you brought over some snacks?!
Rin: Luka even said that sweets are good for when you're tired, so let's have some together!
Saki: Yeah, snack time sounds great! But...
Saki: Can we practice a little more first...? I wanna review that thing you just taught me one more time!
Rin: Huh...?! You're not gonna take a break, Sakki?
Saki: At my current playing level, I won't be able to get through to that crowd...
Saki: So, you can eat without me! I'll take a break in a little bit!
Shiho: Saki said that...?
Rin: Weird, right?! The Sakki I know is usually snacks first, work later.
Rin: But it wasn't just her... Hona and Ichi also...
*Drum Playing*
Honami: Sorry, I need to stop for a second...
Rin: Huh? What's wrong?
Honami: I'm having trouble staying in rhythm for this part... It sounds a bit uneven when I try to step on the pedals for the hi-hat and bass drum at the same time.
Rin: Yeah, the fourth beat sounded kinda too strong. But I don't think it sounded funny or anything like you said, Hona...
Honami: Oh, are you sure...?
Rin: Yup! Even though it's really hard to stay in rhythm through that part, you did just fine. So, the next time you...
Honami: I'm sorry, Rin... I really feel that I need to go over that part again.
Honami: I want to become a better drummer. I want to become the musical foundation of our band!
Rin: Hona...
Rin: Whoa! Ichi, you look so cool when playing the guitar!
Rin: And your singing voice is so pretty... I couldn't help but try to sing along!
Ichika: Thanks.
Ichika: But this still isn't enough... The way I'm playing right now... It's nowhere near where I want to be.
Rin: What? But...
Ichika: I remember thinking before how beautiful your singing voice was, Rin, and how you sang high notes with so much power...
Ichika: It's like your voice could break through the ceiling. Can you teach me how to do that? This song we're working on now has some high parts and I want to get it right.
Ichika: Because if I don't, I probably won't feel too confident when I'm on stage. Plus...
Rin: That's how serious they all are...
Rin: Which is why I want to do as much as I possibly can to help you girls!
Shiho: Rin...
Rin: All of you managed to survive the tough tutelage of Ms. Rin, even after she put on her serious face, so I guarantee that you've gotten better!
Rin: And that's why I know things are gonna go great!
Shiho: I see...
Rin: So, Shih, it's time for you to show off your amazing bass powers!
Rin: Lemme see just how far you've come since we started doing these training sessions♪

Ichika: We finally get to practice as a band...
Shiho: Yeah...
Honami: I-I'm a little nervous. It feels like it's been so long since we last did...
Saki: Yeah, I had trouble falling asleep last night because I was so anxious! A part of me was worried about how we'd do today after practicing so much...
Saki: But I also can't wait to play as a band! So, let's start already!

Shiho: (I can't ask them to do more...)
Shiho: (At the same time, we can't go on stage in this state. We're too out of sync.)
Shiho: (We're not in a band and playing music for fun. We want others to be moved by the songs we play.)
Shiho: (We need to produce a stage-worthy sound. Which means, I...)
Shiho: (I have to play at their level...)
Rin: Shih...
Ichika: No, don't!
Shiho: ...!
Ichika: Why are you holding back?
Ichika: Yes, we're still nowhere near your skill level. You're so far ahead of us...
Ichika: But I don't want you to hold back. That's why we practiced so much until now!
Shiho: Ichika...
Rin: I... I get what you're trying to do, Shih...

Rin: That actually crossed my mind when I heard you play...
Shiho: Oh...

Shiho: Sorry...
Shiho: But all of you could tell that we sounded really off-balance just now, right?

Shiho: At this rate, we won't be able to put on a good performance. So, I have to hold back. It's just what's best for us...
Ichika: No, it's not what's best for us!
Shiho: Huh...?
Ichika: If you want what's best for us, play like you really mean it. Only then...
Ichika: We'll be able to reach your level, Shiho...!
Shiho: What...?
Honami: She's right...
Honami: I think it's fair to say that we all knew you'd be playing at a different level compared to us, Shiho.
Honami: That's why we agreed to do these training sessions. We wanted to catch up to you... However, in hindsight, we didn't have much of a chance to do that since you were practicing just as hard.
Honami: At the same time, Shiho, I don't want you to not play with everything you have...
Saki: Yeah, me too...
Saki: The truth is, Shiho, I got to get a peek at how you were practicing the other day...
Saki: You looked like you were having so much fun playing your bass... I'm never gonna forget that sound.
Saki: And you produced the same sort of sound just now as we played. I felt that same excitement from before. So...
Saki: I think it's important to capture that excitement. I think it's what Leo/need really needs.
Saki: I mean, it's what we've been trying to translate into sound up to this point. That's why you shouldn't let that feeling go...
Shiho: But... At this rate...
Ichika: We all know that it isn't going to be easy.
Ichika: For us to reach your level, Shiho, we'll probably have to spend less time eating and sleeping in order to practice.
Ichika: Even so... I want to make that happen before our show.
Shiho: You make it sound so simple...
Shiho: But that's easier said than done. Until now, we've been practicing with everything we have without cutting any corners.
Shiho: But to ask you to do even more... What if one of you collapses from exhaustion before our show...?
Saki: I don't care. I'd rather have that happen than regret not practicing as hard as I could've.
Honami: I agree... I mean, that's what we all initially agreed to do.

Ichika: Shiho...
Luka: Does this mean you'll be back to practicing as per usual?
Shiho: Yes...
Shiho: But we don't have time to individually practice playing our instruments. Moving forward, we're gonna need to play as much as we can as a band and push each other to do better.
Shiho: Try to keep up with me, okay?
Ichika, Honami & Saki: Okay!
Rin: Thank goodness. They all seem in better spirits now...
Rin: The thing is, the other day... When I thought I was assigned to Shih when it was actually your day, KAITO, I wasn't sure what to say after I heard the way she played...
Rin: I realized that Leo/need wouldn't really sound like Leo/need if Shih didn't play like she really meant it!
Rin: But I couldn't think of a good way to say that or any good solutions for that matter...
KAITO: I understand how you feel... I also sensed the same thing that time. But...
KAITO: I had a feeling that the girls would figure out a way without me saying anything...
KAITO: Through thick and thin, they've pressed on and kept believing in one another.
Rin: Oh...
Plus...
Ichika: My singing and guitar-playing pale in comparison to what Shiho can do.
Rin: (That's right. Ichi's been saying that she wants to figure out a way to reach Shih's level...)
Rin: (And KAITO didn't stop her because he already knew that...)
Rin: Hehe...
KAITO: Y-Yes? Is something...?
Rin: Nope! I just thought that you're really amazing, KAITO♪
Rin: (But thankfully...)
Rin: (Things should turn out great now!)

Shiho: Morning, everyone.
Saki: Oh, Shiho, morning!
Ichika: We finally get to practice as a band...
Shiho: Yeah...
Honami: I-I'm a little nervous. It feels like it's been so long since we last did...

Saku: Sixth sense? I'm saying this because I simply think it's for the best.

Honami: (Wow... The audience... They have such gentle expressions on their faces.)
Saki: (They're reacting so differently from before. Our song, our performance... We're really getting through to them... Not only that...)
Ichika: (My singing too. But I can still do better...)
Ichika: (I want our music to resonate even more with them...!)
Ichika: ♪————...!
Shiho: (Hehe. Ichika's doing great.)
Shiho: (Not just her. Saki and Honami are also doing really well.)
Shiho: (Which mean, after this...)
Shiho: ...!
Shiho: (They're all keeping up with me. Our sound's actually gelling...)
Shiho: (This is so much fun...!)
*Crowd Cheering*
Live House Audience: Wow, yeah... This song... It hits so hard, but it also feels really gentle... It's like it gets who I am.
Live House Audience: I wanna hear more. Give us more!
Shiho: (So much happened over the course of this last month...)
Shiho: (And not all of it was fun... They'd arrive each morning with smiles on their faces and leave with injuries or not having done as well as they'd hoped during practice.)
Shiho: (I discovered a lot of things as well. From stuff that bothered me to what I was missing...)
Shiho: (Above all else, I'm standing here because Miku and the others were all there...)
Shiho: (Because we all want to stay and play as Leo/need.)
Shiho: (The crowd's really feeling our sound...)
Shiho: (Their sounds and feelings are also mixing perfectly with ours. My body can't help but move to the rhythm.)
Shiho: (I've been playing in shows for a while now, but I've never felt this way before. I've never felt this good.)
Shiho: (How are the others feeling? Are they having just as much fun with this performance?)
Shiho: (I sure hope so. It'd be really nice if they are.)
Shiho: (I really do love music.)
Shiho: (I love performing with them like this. I want us to keep doing this for as long as possible. Forever and ever...)
*Crowd Cheering*

Anemone Member A: Hey, not bad... They sound totally different from last time.
Anemone Member A: Also, we're up next. We're not gonna let them walk away with all the glory, are we...? What do you say, Saku? They've put up a fight.
Saku: ...
Anemone Member A: Saku? Hey, Earth to Saku!
Anemone Member B: Yeah, that's not gonna work. We're probably not getting Saku back for a while.
Anemone Member A: What?! But we're up next!
*Crowd Cheering*
Saku: ... Nicely done.

Live House Audience: Today's show was good...
Live House Audience: Yeah, it really was. Especially...
Live House Audience: anemone for one, but also Leo/need. They were so different compared to before. I didn't know they had a song like that up their sleeves.
Shiho: We did it.
Saki: Yeah! That was sooo much fun!
Honami: Yes, it was. The audience also really seemed to have enjoyed our performance.
*Hologram Appearing*
Miku: <Great show, girls.>
Honami: Miku...!!
Rin: <Thanks for inviting us to see your show! Also, thanks for finding such a great spot to place your phone! We got a perfect view of your entire set!>
Honami: Are you sure? We ended up choosing a pretty dark spot.
Rin: <Yeah, that didn't bother us at all! It was great! Even after seeing you girls practice so much, today's performance was the best!>
Len: <She's right. Remembering just how much you all practiced even made me tear up a little.>
Miku: <Not only that, the audience seemed to really respond to your performance.>
Saki: Yeah, that was a huge relief... I'm so glad we were able to get through to them.
Ichika: They responded especially well to your new song, Saki. I saw them turn their faces towards us one by one to really listen as we played...
Ichika: I even started trying to do more to make sure we got through to them...
Honami: Hehe. I believe that because of how hard we all worked.
KAITO: <I'm glad you were also able to play at 100%, Shiho...>
Shiho: Me too... And I have you to thank for that, KAITO. I really appreciate you teaching me so much.
MEIKO: <All we really did was provide support for you girls. You were able to put on such an incredible performance because you put in the work.>
Luka: <Yes, you all worked so hard for this. As both a fellow performer and a member of the audience, I was blown away by your performance today.>
Saki: Yeah, it really was an incredible show... Actually, I think it was our best one yet! But...
Saki: We couldn't really hold a candle to anemone.
Shiho: Yeah...
Shiho: Even after our set ended, the crowd kept cheering for a pretty long time.
Shiho: It showed that we put on a really incredible performance. We all probably thought that just maybe our song resonated more with them than anemone's music...
Shiho: But...
Shiho: We couldn't get up to their level...
Ichika: They played such a turbulent song with everything they had... It was so different compared to what we heard last time...
Honami: But they connected with the audience...
Saki: Yeah... It just goes to show how amazing Saku is...
Honami: But I think we can feel proud of the way we played...
Honami: We managed to put on a fun performance, gave it everything we had and even got the audience going...
Honami: We did what we set out to do, and found out that people want to hear our music...
Honami: So, I believe this show was a huge success!
Rin: <Absolutely! Also, those training sessions seemed really hard, but you all got through them! So, the MVP this time around is... Shih!>
Shiho: Huh?
Saki: Yeah! Because you came up with training schedules and stuff for all of us!
Honami: Not only that, Shiho, you played like you really meant it. I think we were able to put on such a great performance because of that...
Ichika: I agree. We couldn't actually reach your level in such a short period of time...
Ichika: But we'll keep doing what we can. And our next show's going to be just as incredible as the one we put on today.
Shiho: All of you...
Shiho: Thanks...
Shiho: I was able to play that way because you all said you're prepared for that.
Shiho: So, thanks for telling me that I shouldn't hold back.
Shiho: I don't think I've ever had so much fun playing in a show before...
Ichika: Shiho...
???: Yes, I had fun as well.
Ichika: Huh...?
Rin: <Wait, that's...>
Len: <H-Hey! We gotta hide!>
*Footsteps*
Shiho: Saku...
Saku: That was a good performance.
Saku: Lately, the events that I've been doing haven't been all that interesting, including band battles...
Saku: But today was different. I actually felt excited, and was able to put on a great show because of that.
Saku: Also...
Saku: Saki, right? I liked your new song. It really hit home with me.
Saki: Oh...
Saku: And your performance... You got pretty emotional here and there...
Saku: But that matched this song perfectly. I feel that it shouldn't be played any other way...
Saku: It made me think, "Ah, so this is what Leo/need's all about."
Saki: ...
Shiho: We're glad to hear that you liked it so much...
Saku: So, I was wondering...
Saku: When are you playing next? If possible, I'd like it if you could tell me.
Honami: What?
Saku: This event turned out to be a really good one, yes? I was thinking that we could do another one together.
Saku: Oh, I'd also like to swap contact information with you. That should make it easier for us to find a suitable date.
Shiho: H-Hang on...
Anemone Member A: Aha, there you are! What are you doing here, Saku?!
Anemone Member A: Are you teasing these girls again?! Seriously, you've gotta stop doing this! We're going! Now!
Saku: Huh? Wait, I just wanted to swap contact info...
*Footsteps*
Honami: There they go...
*Hologram Appearing*
Rin: <Ugh! Did that person honestly just run off without apologizing for what happened last time?!>
Shiho: I wouldn't get your hopes up. That's just who Saku seems to be...
Shiho: Also, we heard something more important than an apology.
Shiho: Right, Saki...? Saku really seemed to like your new song...
Saki: ...
Honami: S-Saki? Is something wrong?
Saki: S-Sorry! Nothing's wrong...! I-I'm really glad is all...
Saki: I'm glad I worked so hard on it... And I'm really glad that it resonated with everyone...!
Ichika: Saki...
MEIKO: <It was obvious based on your collective sound, but you girls really did play as a single unit today. It's no wonder your show was so incredible.>
Shiho: Right... This show became a precious reminder of what Leo/need's music is actually about.
Shiho: So, I want us to never forget what we felt today and keep doing our best moving forward.
Ichika, Saki & Honami: Yeah!
Luka: <Hehe... I have a feeling that they're going to just keep growing and growing.>
KAITO: <Yes, I agree...>
*Crowd Chattering*
Live House Audience: Man, that was such a good show.
Live House Audience: I came to see anemone like always, but it looked like Saku was really affected by the way Leo/need played...
Live House Audience: It's rare for anemone to play a song like that here. It almost felt like they were going head-to-head... I kinda want to see them do another battle of the bands...
???: ...
???: (I came here to see anemone after hearing that all these other agencies were trying to sign them...)
???: (But Leo/need... They're a nice surprise...)
