A Warm Hand

Side Story 1

Kanade's Room
Mafuyu: (What happened that night...)
Mafuyu: (I have to tell him next time...)
Kanade: Is something wrong...?
Mafuyu: Oh, no. It's nothing.
Mafuyu: I'll be done with the lyrics soon, so if you don't mind taking a look...
Kanade: Okay, sure.

The next day
Yoisaki Household - Kitchen
Honami: Hello. Thank you for having me over again today.
Kanade: Thank you for coming, Ms. Mochizuki.
Kanade: So, about what we discussed yesterday...
Honami: Yes, I brought over everything for the pot stickers! Making each one by hand should be very enjoyable.
Mafuyu: You requested pot stickers, Kanade?
Kanade: Umm... Not quite... I asked Ms. Mochizuki about dishes that the three of us could make together.
Kanade: You weren't feeling well yesterday, so I thought an activity like this would help take your mind off of things.
Mafuyu: ...
Kanade: So, would you like to make some with us...?
Mafuyu: If everything's already been prepared, then I suppose...
Honami: Alright, I'll put the filling in a bowl.

Honami: Thank you for waiting. Let's start wrapping these.
Kanade: Okay. Oh, Mafuyu, have you ever made pot stickers before?
Mafuyu: Yes... I made some with my mom and for home ec.
Kanade: Right. I helped make some when I was little before, but I don't know about now...
Kanade: Can I watch you two first?
Honami: Of course.
Honami: Asahina, these skins are for the regular pot stickers. And these are for the ones we'll be boiling.
Mafuyu: Then, I'll start with the regular ones.
Kanade: You're really good at folding the edges, Mafuyu.
Mafuyu: Really? I think I'm just okay...
Mafuyu: Where should I put the ones that are wrapped?
Honami: There should be a little plate next to you with potato starch on it. Please lightly dip the base of each one in it before placing them on the big plate.
Mafuyu: (Including the skins for the ones we're going to boil, there should just over thirty in total...)
Mafuyu: (Mochizuki split them evenly into three piles, so we should only have to make about ten each...)
Kanade: I'll try making one now. Let's see... First, place some of the filling onto the skin and...
Mafuyu: I think that's a little too much, Kanade.
Kanade: Really? Then, how about this...?
Kanade: Okay, the water comes next. Oh, I think my hands are a little too wet now.
Honami: That's okay, but you'll need to be gentle with the skins. The second they get stuck to your palms, they become easy to rip.
Mafuyu: (That's five... It's nice how I don't have to think about anything else.)
Mafuyu: (Although, I really should be studying instead of making these...)
Mafuyu: (But...)
Kanade: M-Ms. Mochizuki, what do I do...? The pot sticker skin is sticking to my fingers and palms now.
Honami: Hehe. Just a second. Whenever that happens...
Mafuyu: (I think I'll keep doing this for a little while longer...)

Side Story 2

Kanade's Room
Mafuyu: <Enanan, I just sent you my thoughts on your illustration.>
Ena: <Okay, thanks. Was there anything that didn't match up with the lyrics?>
Mafuyu: <No, nothing like that. But something did catch my attention.>
Ena: <Really? Can you tell me what?>
Mafuyu: <The landscape the girl sees through the window. The plants seemed fine, but I felt that there were too many flowers blooming.>
Ena: <Oh, yeah. I wasn't sure about that either. A part of me felt that it should be brighter and flowery since the song is reaching its climax...>
Ena: <Hmm... But I agree that there are too many blooming. What if I made some of them gray...?>
Mizuki: <Haha. Good luck with that.>
Ena: <Hey, don't say things that are gonna make me feel less motivated.>
Mafuyu: I've finished looking at Ena's illustration, Kanade, so I'll be going back to studying.
Kanade: Okay. Thank you for stopping briefly to do that.
Kanade: Oh...
Mafuyu: Your stomach's grumbling.
Kanade: *Nod* This seems like a good place to stop and have something to eat.
Mafuyu: We still have some of those boiled pot stickers left over from the other day...
Kanade: Right. I might have some of those.
Mizuki: <Wait, what? You two made boiled pot stickers?>
Kanade: <Yes, we made them with Ms. Mochizuki.>
Mafuyu: <To be fair, all we did was help wrap them.>
Mizuki: <Still, I had no idea! Oh, did you make any UFOs?!>
Mafuyu: <UFOs...?>
Ena: <Oh, like the ones you wrap with two skins like a sandwich, right?>
Mafuyu: <That sounds more like "stacking" as opposed to "wrapping.">
Mizuki: <True that! They're pretty easy to make, and they look really cool after you deep fry them!>
Mizuki: <Also, Enanan, it sounds like you've heard of them! Have you made them before?>
Ena: <I only helped. Akito was the one who actually made them.>
Ena: <Also, I think he made a few ninja stars.>
Mizuki: <Oh, I think I've made those before too! But I usually call them pinwheels.>
Mafuyu: <You said your brother made them, Enanan. What about you?>
Mizuki: <Wait, did you make him do all the work because you didn't want your hands to get all gross?>
Ena: <I got my hands dirty too. Yeah, I really didn't want to, but it was fine once I got used to having a little bit of starch on my fingers.>
Kanade: Huh? Wait, really...?
Kanade: Oh... The pot sticker skin's stuck to my hand again...
Mafuyu: The starch on your fingers has become balled up.
Honami: That's natural since you don't make these often. Here, use this washcloth.
Kanade: Oh, thank you...
Kanade: S-So, your hands aren't supposed to get that sticky...? Come to think of it, Mafuyu, you and Ms. Mochizuki had no trouble...
Ena: <Oh...>
Mizuki: <Look what you did, Enanan. You could've chosen your words more carefully.>
Ena: <What? I wasn't trying to make her feel bad!>
Ena: <Try not to think about it too much, K!>
Mizuki: <That's only gonna make her think about it even more.>
Ena: <Shut up, Amia!>
Kanade: Oh...
Mafuyu: Anyway, let's head to the kitchen. We also need to prepare that glass noodle soup...
Mizuki: <Oh, are you gonna put the boiled pot stickers in that?>
Mafuyu: <Yes. It's instant soup, but Ms. Mochizuki suggested that we make it using a few vegetables and such...>
Mizuki: <Honami's got all her bases covered.>
Ena: <Also, all this talk of food is making me hungry. I might go grab a quick bite too.>
Mizuki: <Yeah, same here♪ See you all in a bit!>
Mafuyu: <See you...>
Kanade: Alright, shall we...?
Mafuyu: Okay...
