Side Story 1

Toya's Room
Toya: (My song's finally starting to turn out the way I imagined. I should be able to finish it today at this rate...)
Toya: (And writing everything out like this has helped me quite a bit. I'm definitely having an easier time expressing myself.)
Toya: (The things I learned from Soma are all paying dividends.)

Toya: (Soma's probably working on his own song right now, so I need to keep at it as well.)

Toya: Oh, it's already gotten this late... But I only have some minor adjustments left to make before it's finished.
Toya: I'll check it over again just to make sure.
Toya: (Yes, this is good.)
Toya: (Hm? That last phrase...)
Toya: (It sounds like what I imagined... And yet, it seems like I can still do more.)
Toya: (But what would I change?)
Toya: (I've made plenty of adjustments to the beat already, as well as the bridges. They should be as good as they're going to get.)
Toya: (What else do I need to add to complete this song...?)
Toya: Ah...
Soma: I like to use snippets of existing songs, but I also enjoy using sounds you can hear from the world around us.
Soma: Haha. I guess you can chalk it up to me interpreting all these sounds as music.
Soma: Also, by using these kinds of sounds, you can tie your music to day-to-day life.
Toya: The sounds around me... Music and day-to-day life...
Toya: Come to think of it, I've been surrounded by music since I was born.
Toya: Dad's performances for one. But I also grew up listening to my older brothers practicing the piano and violin...
Toya: And I began singing on Vivid Street after stepping away from classical music...

Akito: Hey, you've been singing around here a lot lately.
Akito: Your rhythm and pitch are always so precise. I bet you've been into music a while.
Toya: ...I guess you could say that.
Akito: Oh? Some kind of story behind it, I take it?
Akito: Now I'm really interested. Hey, how would you like to try singing together?
Toya: I met Akito, Ken and learned about Akito's dream...
Toya: After that, I met Shiraishi, Azusawa, Miku and the others. Then, we became a team...
Toya: Music has been in my life for as long as I can remember, and I've been able to meet so many wonderful people because of it.
Toya: It's a part of me. It's never not going to be.
Toya: This may not quite suit my personality, but this sort of approach may work in this case...
The next day
Shibuya Park
Toya: I'll start here first.
Toya: (This place may help me find the sound that my song is missing.)
Toya: (I hear the voices of the children as they play in the park, and street musicians singing somewhere in the distance...)
Toya: (I don't usually notice these things during practice, but this place is full of different sounds.)
Toya: So, let's get to sampling them.
Toya: Okay, I've found quite a few nice sounds after just a short walk around...
Toya: Some strangely interesting ones too. When I walked around on the dirt and concrete, or when I bought something to drink from the vending machine...
Toya: Also...

Musician: ——♪ ————♪
Toya: The sounds from Vivid Street were more full of energy because of all the cars, the people, the street musicians, the singing, the performances...
Toya: Those were definitely all unique to Vivid Street.
Toya: Anyway, the next spot will be my last...

Weekend Garage
An: Welcome!
Toya: Hm? Is it just you here, Shiraishi...?
An: My dad should be back soon. He went out to buy some coffee beans.
Toya: Ah, I see.
An: If you want your usual coffee, you'll probably want to wait until he returns.
Toya: Yes, I'll be patient.
Toya: (I also need to ask for permission to sample sounds from inside the cafe.)
An: ...
An: By the way, Toya, did something good happen to you?
Toya: Hm? Yes, I suppose so... Was I making that sort of face?
An: Yeah, kinda.
An: Hehe. You've changed so much, Toya. Until just recently, I really couldn't tell what you were thinking most of the time.
Toya: You say that, Shiraishi, but I believe you deserve more credit for noticing that.
An: Maybe, but I was able to notice because you began expressing yourself more with your face.
An: Plus, we're teammates, so I want to share in those feelings with you more. I'll be happy when you're happy, and try to cheer you up or cry with you when you're feelings sad.
Toya: I'd like that as well...
Toya: (I wonder what everyone's going to say when they hear my completed song.)
Toya: ...
Toya: (I want us to all feel happy, so I'll need to keep doing my best to make that happen.)

Side Story 2

Toya's Room
Toya: Okay...
Toya: (I wasn't expecting my song to be received so well.)

An: I...
An: I really wanna sing this track!!
Kohane: It was so incredibly amazing, Aoyagi! I really want to sing your song right now too!
Akito: What did I think? Obviously, I thought it was the best thing ever! If we were to perform this song, the sky would be the limit!
Akito: Just hearing the intro alone made me want to sing it, but as the song went on, I felt this hot sensation start welling up inside me. I guess that's what it really means to evoke emotions in somebody.
Akito: Dude, where did you learn to make something like this?! This means I've gotta up my game too...
Toya: ...
Toya: And that song's going to be on the set list for our next event.
Toya: Do the others really understand that it takes place next week?
Toya: But I'm glad...
Toya: (They're always helping me... And all I could do for our team really amounted to very little.)
Toya: (They said that I've been helping them, so maybe I was making real contributions to our team...)
Toya: But... I think I'm finally able to contribute in a way that I can feel good about.
Toya: During our next event, we'll get to sing this song. Our song...
Akito: So, Toya, you should just keep trying until you feel satisfied. I'll be looking forward to singing a song written by you.
Toya: I promise to do just that...
Toya: If Shiraishi sings this part with her usual power, it should pack a fairly serious punch.
Toya: The part after that's a bit tricky, but I feel like Akito and Azusawa have the right voices for it. Then...

The next day
Weekend Garage
Akito: Alright, we're all here. Let's get ready for the last week before our event.
Kohane & An: Yeah!
Toya: Yes.
Kohane: We're going to start by working on the lyrics for the song Aoyagi wrote, right?
An: Yeah, I wrote some for it. Here, take a look...
Akito: Hey, these are better than I expected. I thought they'd be a lot rougher since you only had a couple of days to work on them.
An: A jolt ran through me when I heard this song for the first time, and I immediately started getting ideas.
An: But I'm not really sure if it totally goes with your song, Toya. What do you think...?
Toya: ...!
Toya: This is astonishing... Your choice of words is impeccable, Shiraishi. It's like you knew exactly how I felt.
Toya: I want to sing this song with these lyrics.
An: Really?! Awesome!
Toya: Also, I divided it up into parts. Would you all mind taking a look?
Akito: Oh, what do you got?
Kohane: This is...
Toya: What do you think...?
An: This is perfect!
An: I mean, it's almost exactly how I thought we should sing this song after hearing it for the first time! I sorta can't believe it!
Kohane: Yeah, me neither! Oh, like this part! I had a feeling that it's going to sound amazing if you sang it, An!
Akito: Yeah, I also had the same sort of idea. I go for volume, Toya balances everything out and you get in the last punch, Kohane.
Akito: Let's split the song up like this.
Toya: ...! Thank goodness.
An: Still, I really can't believe how we're totally on the same page.
Kohane: I know, right?! Oh, does this mean we're all on the same wavelength?
Akito: Probably. Now, let's get work on those lyrics.
Toya: Yes!
