Gloomy Afternoon

Side Story 1

Miyamasuzaka
Waiter: Thank you for coming!
Ena: That cafe was really nice. On top of them having so many different cakes, the iced tea and coffee was delicious.
Ena: I need to thank Futaba for letting me know about this place. I'll send her a message later.
Ena: I know. Maybe I'll ask everyone if they're keen on having the next after-party here.
Ena: No, wait. Kanade likes the ramen they have at that diner...
Ena: (Kanade...)
Ena: <Every time I listen to one of your songs whenever I'm not feeling great... Whenever I wonder if I should continue drawing, the thought of creating art for N25 keeps me going.>
Ena: <Plus, I've actually started thinking about what I wanna do after I graduate.>
Ena: <You're the reason why I'm even thinking about my own future.>
Ena: <So, Kanade...>
Ena: (I said something really selfish that time...)
Ena: (But Kanade won't get anything in return at this rate.)
Ena: I'm so glad KAITO came to talk...
Ena: Bursting in, saying what was on his mind and leaving the way he did was startling. But if he hadn't, Kanade would...
Ena's Voice: I'm sorry. Can I get this coffee to go?
Empty SEKAI
Lake
Ena: Oh, finally... There he is.
Ena: Hey, KAITO! I'm here to talk about Kanade...!
KAITO: ...
KAITO: Did something happen?
Ena: No, nothing happened... But I wanted to thank you for what you said.
KAITO: Thank me...?
Ena: Yeah, because you went out of your way to come talk to her.
Ena: So, here's some coffee. Oh, wait... Do you drink coffee? I forget.
KAITO: Is that your way of making fun of me?
Ena: What? No, that's not what I'm doing...
Ena: But I do want you to listen while you drink that...
KAITO: ...
Ena: Kanade... She's helped me so much already.
Ena: Which is why you coming over to talk to her was really big.
KAITO: She helped you...? Come to think of it, you've mentioned a few things about her songs.
Ena: Yeah... Uhh...
Ena: I wanted to go to this one art high school, but I didn't get accepted. I felt so miserable after that...
Ena: I hit rock bottom... I wanted to just disappear.
Ena: That was when I discovered Kanade's songs...
Ena: Huh...?
Ena: Tears...?
Ena: (Oh, is that it...? I'm in pain...)
Ena: (This song's so sad... It's full of pain and suffering, and makes me really want to disappear...)
Ena: (But...)
Ena: (It's like it's saying, "No, don't disappear yet.")
Ena: After joining N25, Kanade said herself that her music needs my art...
Ena: When my art sent me to another dark place, Kanade composed a song and Rin sang for me...
Ena: She's helped just me this much, so I have to think a lot more people out there have also benefited from her music.
Ena: Which is why...
Ena: I... I want Kanade to enjoy life more.
KAITO: ...
Ena: I know what Kanade's carrying is really heavy and not something she can resolve easily.
Ena: I know that...
Ena: But Kanade looked so happy when she saw Mafuyu smile...
Ena: And I want to see Kanade smile the same way...
KAITO: If that's how you truly feel, then don't ever let go of it...
Ena: Even if it's my ego talking...?
KAITO: So what if it is?
Ena: *Sigh* You could try to be more subtle.
KAITO: I've finished drinking the coffee. I'll be going now.
Ena: Oh... Honestly, talk about being the opposite of sociable.
Ena: But I guess what matters most is that we got to talk.

Side Story 2

Scramble Crossing
Ena: Now that we're all here, let's start heading over.
Mizuki: Aye aye♪ I can't wait to see this cafe since you recommended, Ena!
Ena: Hehe. We have to walk a little further than we usually do to our usual diner, but it has a nice relaxing atmosphere and their cakes are amazing.
Ena: Oh, they don't serve ramen, but they do have a few different kinds of pasta on the menu.
Kanade: They do? I haven't had much pasta lately, so I might get some...
Mafuyu: ...
Ena: Mafuyu...? Is it just me or do you seem pretty tired?
Kanade: Was talking to your dad a bit too much for you...?
Mafuyu: Maybe... I'm not sure...
Mafuyu: All I did today was answer his questions...
Kanade: But being on edge as you talk to him must've taken its toll...
Ena: Being on edge...?
Mizuki: You're a kind and considerate person, Mafuyu, so I guess you're feeling a little guilty...
Mizuki: I mean, he is spending his free time each week to come and see you.
Mafuyu: I'm feeling guilty...?
Ena: Even if you are, you didn't cause your parents any trouble until now. I wouldn't worry too much about the repercussions.
Mizuki: What she said! I mean, just look at us. We're causing other people trouble all the time♪
Mizuki: I still only go to school when I feel like it. I'm sure there's rumors about me in the neighborhood and they're probably not good ones either...
Ena: Yeah, I remember the times when I've felt really bad about the trouble I've caused my mom and even Akito...
Ena: In any case, Mafuyu, we know you're doing your best.
Ena: That being said, no one can keep anything like this up forever. Don't forget that it's okay for you to ask for help from those around you when you're trying to take a break.
Mafuyu: I'll keep that in mind... Thank you.
Ena: You're welcome.
Ena's Room
Ena: (That was a really fun after-party...)
Ena: (Kanade even said that she really liked the pasta. I'm glad I suggested that we go to that cafe.)
Ena: Now then... I think I'll work on that assignment for art class until its 25:00.
Ena: We're supposed to draw a landscape. What should I do?
Ena: Oh, that reminds me. I have that book of landscape photos lying around here somewhere that I can use for practice.
Ena: I've mostly been referring to pictures online lately, so it might be nice to use something out of a book for a change.
Ena: Let's see... I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in this closet.
Ena: Aha! Here it is!
Ena: Oh... There goes all the other books in the stack...
Ena: *Sigh* What a pain... But I gotta clean this up otherwise I can't shut my closet.
Ena: Hm...? What's this postcard?
Ena: ...!
Ena: This is...
Mother: Ena, your father sent this picture postcard. It looks like he drew that gorge we saw today.
Ena: I still had this...?
Ena: (I was still in kindergarten or elementary school...)
Ena: (I used to always look forward to him doing another drawing after returning from wherever he went to visit.)
Ena: (I should only have a couple more of these lying around since he only drew them when he felt like it...)
Ena: Honestly, how could I've had so much faith in him?
Ena: *Sigh*
Ena: Why does he have to be my dad...?
Ena: And the thought of having to tell him what I want to do with myself moving forward is totally unbearable...
Ena: I know I have to give that some more thought... But for now, I need to work on my landscape.
