The following is a guide to properly formatting transcripts, including event stories, card stories, and virtual live dialogue. Area Conversations use different guidelines than listed here and should only be added once official EN translations have been released to avoid confusion.

Getting Transcripts[]

For all transcripts released on EN servers, official translations should be used. Fan translations should only be used if there is no official translation and with express permission from the translator. Fan translations should be credited at the top of the transcript page with the 'Translator' parameter.

To find transcripts, it's highly recommended to use Sekai Viewer. If there is an issue with Sekai Viewer, transcripts can be copied from the in-game story, but this is discouraged. If you are transcribing by hand, make sure to double check for spelling and grammar errors.

Do not try to translate yourself unless you have experience with both languages. If necessary, copy the Japanese text into the page (and add the {{Transcript Stub}} template) instead.

Transcript Formatter[]

Thanks to our editor Octo, we now have a google sheet for formatting transcripts. Here's a step-by-step to using it.

  1. Make a copy of the Google Sheet
  2. Copy and paste dialog from Sekai Viewer into the second page
  3. Remove spaces
    1. Select the first column by clicking the 'A'
    2. Go to Data > Create a Filter
    3. Click the inverted triangle in cel 1A and choose '(Blanks)' so it is unchecked
    4. Confirm with 'Ok'
  4. Select transcript with spaces removed by clicking the 'A' once again and copy
  5. Paste transcript into column B on the first page (Titled 'paste here')
  6. Remove spaces from formatted transcript
  7. Copy and paste formatted transcript into wiki page
  8. Add missing VIRTUAL SINGER icons, backgrounds, and sound effects

Needed Transcripts[]

As new events and cards are released, what needs transcribing is always changing. For an updated list, see Category: Missing Transcript

Using Templates[]

There are six templates used on transcript pages. For more info on using each one, click the link to go to the template documentation page.

Dialog[]

{{dialog}} is the main template used on transcript pages. Here are some pointers on how to use it:

Note: All VIRTUAL SINGERS have sub-unit icons, courtesy of Bax! Older transcripts may use default VS icons instead of the sub-unit, so these should be changed.

  • Text should be copied exactly as shown in the story without changes. For example, Nightcord at 25:00 should not be changed to 25-ji Nightcord de.
  • Since sources will show line breaks differently, they should be left out of the dialog template completely.
Incorrect Correct
{{dialog|luka|Hello, everyone.<br>My name is Megurine Luka.}}

Luka: Hello, everyone.
My name is Megurine Luka.
{dialog|luka|Hello, everyone. My name is Megurine Luka.}}

Luka: Hello, everyone. My name is Megurine Luka.
  • The template automatically capitalizes the first letter of names, which is helpful for most characters. However, MEIKO and KAITO's names should be in all uppercase. This also applies to sub units.
Incorrect Correct
{{dialog|kaito wxs|Great work, everyone! It's almost time for opening night!|kaito}}

Kaito: Great work, everyone! It's almost time for opening night!
{{dialog|kaito wxs|Great work, everyone! It's almost time for opening night!|KAITO}}

KAITO: Great work, everyone! It's almost time for opening night!
  • Characters with the name ??? that are clearly identifiable, characters in costume, and characters with a different name during a performance should have the correct icon image. This does not apply to NeneRobo, who is a separate character from Nene.
Incorrect Correct
{{dialog|???|Then...allow me to join you.}}

???: Then...allow me to join you.

{{dialog|Mikudayo Masctot|I'm back!}}

Mikudayo Mascot: I'm back!
{{dialog|rin 25|Then...allow me to join you.|???}}

???: Then...allow me to join you.

{{dialog|miku wxs|I'm back!|Mikudayo Mascot}}

Mikudayo Mascot: I'm back!

Bg[]

A full list of backgrounds can be found on the {{bg}} template page. If adding or renaming backgrounds, make sure to update this list.

  • For scenes with characters talking in two places (such as characters watching a VIRTUAL SINGER video, or talking on the phone), backgrounds should only switch at the first introduction of a scene to avoid filling the page.
  • After a card CG, the original background should not be added again. The situational context has already been given, so adding the image again is redundant.

Loc[]

{{loc}} is used to add background captions and time skips. The loc template should only be used when it is shown in the story.

  • Though some pages use the loc template for sound effects, this should be changed to {{sfx}}

Sfx[]

{{sfx}} is used to add sound effects. A sound should be described, not the action(s) that caused the sound.

Incorrect Correct
{{sfx|Miku enters the cafe}}

{{sfx|Cafe Bell}}

Flashback[]

{{flashback}} is used to indicate when a scene is within the character's memory.

  • 'Flashback' sfx that appears at the beginning of each flashback should not be included
  • Background changes should not be included in the flashback unless completely necessary to understanding context (Otherwise, it gets difficult to read with many repeated images.)
    • This means that flashbacks containing no dialogue should be omitted entirely
  • Flashback colors should be either of the unit the story centers on, or for mixed event stories, the unit of the character thinking. (For all color options, see {{color}})
  • Multiple flashbacks placed back to back should not be joined together
Incorrect Correct
{{flashback|{{dialog|mafuyu|You all want to disappear more than anyone.}}
{{dialog|miku 25|However, I am sure that if anything is able to help her ...it will be your music.|Miku}}}}

Mafuyu: You all want to disappear more than anyone.
Miku: However, I am sure that if anything is able to help her ...it will be your music.
{{flashback|{{dialog|mafuyu|You all want to disappear more than anyone.}}}}
{{flashback|{{dialog|miku 25|However, I am sure that if anything is able to help her ...it will be your music.|Miku}}}}

Mafuyu: You all want to disappear more than anyone.
Miku: However, I am sure that if anything is able to help her ...it will be your music.

Options[]

{{options}} is used for when the game presents two interactive options to the player.

Example
{{options|Option one|Option two}}

References[]

Here's a small list of completed transcripts you can use as a reference.

Tips and Tricks[]

  • Lag is common when pages have a lot of text. To work around this, create a new test page like this and transcribe the story in sections there. When you're finished, copy and paste it to the correct page.
  • Incomplete Transcriptions are fine, and transcribing can be done over days or weeks. If a transcript is incomplete, add the {{Transcript Stub}} template to tag it as a stub.
  • Checking stories before saving them will save a lot of time. Make sure templates are added correctly and that you haven't forgotten end punctuation or pipes.
    • Some strings of text (like '!!', '<i>' or '=') will mess with the template. To fix this, add <nowiki> around the text.
    • If a string of text turns green, it's considered code to the site and needs to have nowiki around it (unless it breaks the template, if the text is purple/black, it's fine)
  • Copy and pasting stories is recommended, and saves time re-typing and checking for grammatical errors.
  • Use the source code of other pages to assist you. If you don't understand how a template is used, look at pages using it for an example.
  • Avoid spoilers by only transcribing stories that have been released in-game. Virtual Live and Event Story transcripts are often available on Sekai Viewer before they can be viewed in-game, so wait to add them so no policies are broken.
  • Time skips within a story episode should be indicated with a <br>. In-game, they appear as a quick 'fade to black'. See video footage of the first episode of Same Dreams, Same Colors and compare to its story transcript.
  • Official typos should be noted with [sic] (using the {{sic}} template)
    • e.g. "Please Let It Comes {{Sic}} True" will produce "Please Let It Comes [sic] True"
