Secret Weapon - Robo-Phoenix!

Side Story 1

Rui's Room
Rui: Well, this is quite the dilemma...
Tsukasa: Apologies... I had Seiryuin give me a few tips regarding how to get into character.
Tsukasa: Yes. Well, to be clear, not using her way, but her friend's...
Tsukasa: However, I'm worried that I won't be able to figure out my character in time if I go with that...
Rui: (He only has a few days left. His chances of reaching Seiryuin's level seem slim...)
Rui: (Still...)
Rui: Hehe...
Rui: After seeing that look on his face, there was no way we weren't going to support him...
Rui: Unfortunately, there really isn't much we can do to help...
Rui: I can give him all the advice I want as a director, but there's no point if it doesn't help him figure out how to play Rio.
Rui: What are our options aside from that...?
Rui: Hm? Someone's calling me?
Rui: Ah, Tsukasa, good evening.
Tsukasa: <Sorry, I know it's late.>
Rui: That's perfectly fine. I was just trying to come up with some ideas.
Tsukasa: <Ideas? For practice?>
Rui: Correct. I assume you called for the same reason?
Tsukasa: <I did! I tried thinking of what I can do with the days I have left, but I'm honestly at a loss.>
Rui: Hehe. Then, would you like to hear what I have? Well, to be fair, it's extremely simple.

Tsukasa: <What?! I should limit the number of scenes I practice?>
Rui: Yes. As was explained to us, Tsukasa, each candidate will only have around three minutes to perform a scene of their choice during the audition.
Rui: So, I believe you should place a priority on the scenes that resonate with you the most.
Rui: Though I do agree with the notion that you need to practice every scene to get a full grasp of your character.
Tsukasa: <But time is not on my side. On top of that, my portrayal needs to be of a certain level...>
Rui: I have a feeling that the others will do the same thing.
Tsukasa: <So, the question becomes which scenes to choose...>
Rui: Yes. Ideally, one that involves you, Seiryuin and a moment where you can really shine.
Rui: Obviously, you won't land the role by putting on a half-hearted performance.
Tsukasa: <...>
Rui: On the other hand, you could put aside any comparisons between you and Seiryuin when you're both on stage. Instead, you could focus only on perfecting your portrayal of Rio.
Rui: If you choose that route, you could select a scene where Rio is alone or with his mother.
Tsukasa: <...>
Rui: ...
Rui: I... No...
Rui: All of us. Regardless of what you choose, Tsukasa, you have our full support.
Rui: But figuring out your character takes top priority.
Tsukasa: <Yes, I agree...>
Rui: Then, which scene you do will be up to you.
Rui: You could conceivably practice a few different scenes, wait to see which ones the others perform during the audition and make your final decision then.
Tsukasa: <I see... But...>
Tsukasa: <I absolutely want to practice the scene where Rio chases after the phoenix...>
Rui: (Yes, I had a feeling you'd pick that scene as one of your choices...)
Rui: If you're going to practice that scene, you'll need a practice partner. Emu could work since she's so agile...
Tsukasa: <About that. Would it be possible to use one of those bird robots you made?>
Tsukasa: <I mean, I'm the only one of us participating in this audition. I'd appreciate her help, but you all also need time to practice.>
Tsukasa: <So, if possible, I'd like to practice on my own.>
Rui: Using a bird robot as the phoenix, eh...? Okay, I'll make sure to bring it for tomorrow's practice.
Tsukasa: <T-Tomorrow?! You can have it ready that quickly?!>
Rui: The truth is, I have this other robot that I was working on for a different matter.
Rui: It's based on the bird robots I made before, so it'll be fairly easy to modify.
Rui: So, I'll take this opportunity to fiddle with the code a bit and make it behave more like a phoenix.
Rui: I know...! The motor I got my hands on just recently should give it a significant boost in mobility!
Rui: Yes, I'm getting more and more ideas now!
Tsukasa: <O-Okay...? Thank you, but don't go too overboard...>
Rui: I appreciate it, Tsukasa. Now, I'd like to get to work right away, so we'll talk again tomorrow.
Tsukasa: <Yes, see you tomorrow!>
Rui: Okay, I need to see if I have all the parts I'm going to need for this...
Rui: If not, I'll just have to take parts from some of the other robots. Which means...
Rui: Oh, that's right...!
Rui: Hello? Nene? Sorry for bothering you so late. Would you mind meeting with me early tomorrow morning?
Rui: Okay, thank you.
Rui: Now I have someone to be the voice of the bird-turned-phoenix robot.
Rui: All that's left is for me to finish it by tomorrow morning.
Rui: So, let's get started!

Side Story 2

Rui's Room
Rui: Okay, now I just need to connect Robo-Phoenix to my computer and...
Rui: Based on the internal data... Good, she appears to have become very elusive.
Rui: I'm glad I asked Nene to voice her too. Compared to being unvoiced, this should make it much easier to imagine what that scene is like.
Rui: Still...
Tsukasa: I may not have actually made a connection with him yet. I mean, we're not in a forest, and the temperature and humidity feel completely different...
Tsukasa: Alas, I know that I can't ask for everything. We don't have time to visit a forest since we need to practice, so...
Tsukasa: Rio spends three days and nights surviving only on water...
Tsukasa: Then, I shall do the same.
Rui: (Because he seemed serious, I ended up agreeing with how he wanted to understand what Rio's feeling...)
Rui: (He's the type of actor who likes to get on the same page emotionally as the characters he plays.)
Rui: (However, he's bound to encounter some roles in the future where he can't recreate their respective situations.)
Rui: (As simple a method as his way of getting into character is, for a high schooler to put himself through such an ordeal...)
Rui: I wish we could help carry the load somehow...
Rui: Isn't there a way to simulate what he needs without taking such a physical toll...?
Rui: Wait, that's it...!
A few days later
Wonder Stage
Rui: Hello. Thank you all for waiting.
Tsukasa: Ah, there you are! So, why did you ask us to gather like this all of a sudden?
Emu: There's something you wanna show us, right?!
Rui: Yes! I've brought a new weapon!
Nene: W-Weapon?
Rui: Indeed! Here it is!
Tsukasa: Ah... Huh?
Emu: Wait, those look like...
Nene: VR goggles?
Rui: Yes! Using these, we'll be able to put ourselves in whatever environment or situation we like!
Rui: For example! We may be digesting away in a monster's stomach after it devoured us...
Rui: Or desperately searching for water because our bodies have been set ablaze!
Rui: These will allow us to safely immerse ourselves in all sorts of dangerous situations!
Emu: Th-That's so cool☆
Tsukasa: Y-Yes, it is cool. But...
Nene: Digesting inside a monster's stomach? Being set ablaze? How exactly do we end up in those situations?
Rui: Hehe. Those were just examples.
Rui: More to the point, if used correctly, these should help us learn to play our characters better.
Emu: That sounds fun! Let's give it a try, you guys! Who wants to start?
Nene: I don't mind waiting since I've played plenty of these kinds of games before.
Nene: Also, I'm kinda scared after hearing those example scenarios...
Tsukasa: Then, I'll go first!
Rui: Okay, would you mind putting these on? I'll play the video I put together.

Tsukasa: So, like this...? Okay, I think it's set!
Tsukasa: Wh-Wh-Whoa!
Tsukasa: Th-This is incredible! I'm running! Across the ocean!
Tsukasa: Huh?! I'm taking flight now?! Oh, hello there...
Emu's Voice: Huh? Tsukasa, who are you talking to?
Tsukasa: I was greeting an airplane that I just flew by. I made eye contact with one of the passengers, so...
Nene: Seriously, what's going on in this video...?
Rui: I stitched together a series of free videos. Please forgive any issues with the editing.
Nene: That's not what I meant...

Emu: Wow...! That was so much fun☆
Rui: Hehe. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Rui: I could only prepare a video this time, but it'll feel even more real when I add some sound to it.
Rui: Also, if I can find a way to stimulate one's senses of touch and smell...
Tsukasa: What?! You can do that?!
Rui: Unfortunately, not immediately...
Rui: However, I'd like to keep that in mind as a way to help us learn and play new characters.
Rui: As much as I like to see actors put on sensational performances, asking them to do more than they can handle would do more harm than good.
Tsukasa: Rui...
Tsukasa: Thank you for doing this!
Rui: It was nothing. We're troupe mates, aren't we?
Emu: Oh, Rui! I wanna try it again!
Emu: The part where you fly might help me get a better idea of what it's like to be a duck♪
Rui: Yes, of course!
