Side Story 1

Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy - Courtyard
Mafuyu: This cookie is delicious.
Classmate A: Really? Thanks. I've been really into baking recently.
Classmate B: Wait, you made these yourself? Your homemaker talent must be off the charts!
Classmate A: Well, you're pretty good with needlework yourself, right? I know you make things like pouches.
Mafuyu: Hehe, you're both amazing.
Classmate B: I'm just doing it as a hobby, actually.
Mafuyu: Well, I still think that's amazing. It must be nice to have hobbies...
Classmate A: Huh? You don't have hobbies, Mafuyu?
Mafuyu: Hm, if I had to say something... My hobby is keeping a fish tank, I guess?
Classmate B: Wow, you have a fish tank? I think that's a great hobby!
Classmate A: Yeah, it really suits you! What sort of fish do you keep?
Classmate B: Goldfish? Or maybe tropical fish?
Mafuyu: Actually, I don't have any fish at all. I was quite pleased with it after just putting sand and waterweeds inside.
Classmate B: Haha, that's one way of doing it. I guess keeping live fish can be quite tedious too, huh?
Classmate A: Like when you have to clean the tank...
Classmate B: The tank alone would work as decoration, so why not?
Mafuyu: Hehe, thanks.
Mafuyu: Oh, the bell should be ringing any time now. Let's go back.
Classmate A: Huh, already? That was fast...
Emu: Yahohoy♪
Mafuyu: Oh...
Emu: Eep! I'm sorry!
Mafuyu: Don't worry about it. But try not to run around so much, alright?
Emu: Eek?!
Emu: Y-Yes, I-I-I'll be more careful!
Mafuyu: Hm?
Classmate A: Who was that just now? Is it just me or was she trembling at Mafuyu?
Classmate B: Was she? She looked like a first year. Maybe she was just flustered because she ran into an upperclassman.
Mafuyu: Hehe, you may be right. Anyway, let's go.
Asahina Household - Living Room
Mafuyu: I'm home.
Mom: Oh, Mafuyu, I was just about to go shopping. Would you like to come along with me?
Mafuyu: Ah, I'm so sorry. I have homework and class prep to do, and I'll need to study, so...
Mom: You're so hard-working, Mafuyu. Well then, let me prepare some delicious tea for you before I head out!
Mom: Come downstairs once you've settled down a little, okay?
Mafuyu: Okay!
Mafuyu's Room
Mafuyu: ...
Mafuyu: Hm.
Mafuyu: Having a fish tank suits me, huh...
Mafuyu: Why does it suit me, though?
Mafuyu: There's nothing swimming inside... Of course there isn't. I didn't put any fish in.
Mafuyu: It looks so lonely and comfortable inside.
Mafuyu: But it's only big enough for an arm...
Mother: Mafuyu, what tea would you like to have today? Ceylon? Earl Grey?
Mafuyu: Oh, I can't decide! I'm coming down now, give me a minute!
Mafuyu: ...
Mafuyu: I'll just pick whichever one is on the right.
Mafuyu: Thanks for waiting! I'll go with Earl Grey today... Oh, there's a snack too!

Side Story 2

Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy - Class 2-B
English teacher: Please start reading from page 32 of the textbook.
Classmate A: Ah... Um...
English teacher: Good, thank you. Ms. Asahina, you're next.
Mafuyu: Yes.
Classmate B: Whoa, Mafuyu's a natural at this. She's amazing.
Classmate A: Her pronunciation's so good. I don't understand what she just read...
English teacher: Good, thank you. Your pronunciation was impeccable. You'll have no problems overseas.
Classmate B: That was really cool!
Mafuyu: Thank you.
Mafuyu's Room
[Yuki]: <I've finished the lyrics for the new song. I'll send them to everyone now.>
[Amia]: <Got it. Ah! There are English phrases this time.>
[Enanan]: <Let's see... This third word is arrow, right?>
[K]: <Yes. That's right.>
[Yuki]: <Oh, but you're pronouncing it with the R sound. It should be with the L sound, or the meaning changes completely.>
[Enanan]: <Huh? What do you mean?>
[Yuki]: <R makes it arrow, as in bow and arrow. L makes it allow.>
[Amia]: <Oh... In that case, what's the correct way to pronounce this word?>
[Yuki]: <For the R sound, roll your tongue backwards without touching anything. For the L sound, let the tip of the tongue touch your upper front teeth.>
[Enanan]: <Okay... So if I have to pronounce it with the L sound... Allow. Did I get that right?>
[Yuki]: <Yes, well done.>
[Enanan]: <Hmph. English is no sweat once you get the hang of it.>
[Amia]: <Nah, just knowing how to pronounce the L and R sounds won't get you anywhere, at least not overseas.>
[Enanan]: <I know that... Sigh, why can't everyone just speak Japanese?>
[Yuki]: <Hehe. Oh, but some things in English can be understood if you speak in Japanese too, you know?>
[Amia]: <Like what?>
[Yuki]: <For example... Ah. You could use ani, iju to pronounce the English phrase, I need you.>
[Enanan]: <Whoa! It really does sound like that.>
[Amia]: <Haha! Hey, that's super interesting! Do you have any other examples?>
[Yuki]: <Maybe... Aha! How about haba, naissu ne for have a nice day?>
[Enanan]: <You're right! I can totally understand that!>
[K]: <You're really good with stuff like this, Yuki.>
[Yuki]: <Not really. I was just repeating what I learned in my English cram classes.>
[Yuki]: <Oh, but it may be pretty funny to create a song with English lyrics that sound like actual Japanese words.>
[Amia]: <Haha! Yeah, that'll definitely be hilarious! But it'll also be really difficult to pull off.>
[Enanan]: <So we'll write Japanese lyrics and turn them into English? Wait. Or is it the other way around?>
[Enanan]: <Oh boy. Just thinking about it gives me a headache.>
[Amia]: <Yeah... English is really hard, huh?>
[Yuki]: <Hehe. It's difficult to learn, I'll admit.>
[Yuki]: <But when you use words you don't usually use, it makes you feel like you can become someone different for a change, don't you think?>
[Enanan]: <Become someone different, huh? Hm... What does that feel like?>
[Yuki]: <Well...>
[Yuki]: (What does it feel like?)
[K]: <What's the matter, Yuki?>
[Yuki]: <Oh, well... I can't think of a good way to describe it.>
[Enanan]: <Becoming someone different is...maybe something like taking a photo of someone else instead of a selfie?>
[Amia]: <Or maybe before and after putting on makeup?>
[Yuki]: <Hehe, yes. I guess that was what I had in mind too.>
[Yuki]: (What it feels like to become someone else...)
[Yuki]: (Why did I even say something like that?)
[K]: <Yuki, can you sing these song lyrics out loud for us?>
[Yuki]: <Ah, yes. Of course.>
