The Starry Sky I Saw

Side Story 1

School SEKAI
Shiho: Anyway, why don't we call it a day? Your homework will be to work on what we each talked about today.
Ichika: Okay.
Saki: Got it♪
Saki: Oh, Ichi, I almost forgot! How are your lyrics coming along?
Miku: Is this about your next original song?
Saki: Yeah! Ichi even said so during our last show!
Ichika: Well, it's just... I was thinking about how I could turn how I feel right now into lyrics.
Miku: Oh, I see.
Ichika: I did get started on them but...
Ichika: I'm still having trouble expressing how I feel without holding myself back, you know?
Ichika: It's this strange balancing act between trying to write what's on my mind and how embarrassed I feel about that.
Shiho: I mean, is there anything anyone can do about that?
Honami: Hehe. I agree.
Honami: And the lyrics you wrote for our last song were really good, so I'm sure you'll do just fine with our next one.
Saki: I think so too!
Saki: Which is why you just need to let you be you more, Ichi♪
Miku: So, Ichika, how about it...?
Ichika: Thanks, everyone...
Ichika: I'll keep trying to find the right words for expressing how I truly feel.
Saki: Okay♪
Miku: At the same time, it'd be interesting to see what you come up with if you took the opposite approach, Ichika.
Saki: Oh, I can tell you a little about that!
Ichika: Wait...!
Saki: They went something like... “English is so melancholy... Please, clock...”
Ichika: S-Saki, stop!
Saki: Huh...?!
Ichika: Th-That was just something I wrote after thinking about what cool lyrics sound like for far too long...!
Saki: Haha! You know you don't have to take everything that seriously, right?
Saki: Also, I don't think you need to try so hard to be cool.
Ichika: Huh?
Saki: Because you've always been cool just the way you are. Ever since we were little♪
Honami: She's right. One thing that I'll never forget is...
Honami: During elementary school, these boys were about to do something bad to me, but you jumped in and saved me.
Saki: I remember that too! They didn't know what to do after that!
Miku: Hehe. That's so heroic of you, Ichika!
Ichika: Y-You think so...?
Saki: Oh, that kitten that one time too! You saw that it climbed up a tree and couldn't get down!
Shiho: Yeah, that's right. Ichika, you emptied out your entire backpack and climbed the tree to save it.
Saki: And everything was doing so great up to the point where you put the kitten in your backpack but...
Honami: You looked down, froze up and couldn't climb back down after that...
Ichika: R-Right. And you saved me by finding a grown-up who could help me down, Honami.
Miku: I never knew that happened.
Honami: Back then, Ichika, you really just let your actions speak for themselves.
Shiho: I know, right? There were a few times when you tried to get people to make up without really knowing what was going on.
Saki: Also, when it rained this one time, you used your textbook as an umbrella for me so that I wouldn't get wet!
Ichika: C-Can we stop there, please?
Saki: But we have so many more amazing stories to go through, Ichi...
Miku: Hehe. But I understand now. Ichika's cool and wonderful just the way she is.
Saki: Yes, thank you!
Saki: Anyway, that's why I think you should just write what you feel. You're already the most amazing person ever as it is, Ichi!
Ichika: Q-Quit exaggerating, Saki, please...
Ichika: Phew...
Ichika: (I tried writing more lyrics after that, but I'm still having trouble really expressing myself...)
KAITO: How interesting these lyrics sound isn't what's important. How you feel should take priority, Ichika...
Saki: That's why I think you should just write what you feel. You're already the most amazing person ever as it is, Ichi!
Ichika: (KAITO was right to say that and I'm glad he did. Even Saki said so herself...)
Ichika: (But as happy as I am about what they said, putting pen to paper is a different story. I still feel like I'm missing something...)
Ichika: (Hmm... I have to think that it has to do with me not having the tools or vocabulary to properly express myself...)
Honami: Back then, Ichika, you really just let your actions speak for themselves.
Ichika: Letting my actions speak for themselves...
Ichika: (Before junior high, I definitely was like that.)
Ichika: (But during...)
Ichika: ...
Ichika: (We were all put into different classes and began to drift apart. Before I knew it, I wasn't able to talk to them like I used to...)
Ichika: (I learned to read situations better as a result, but all I could do was watch as my friends moved further and further away. Especially Honami and Shiho...)
Ichika: *Sigh*
Ichika: I can't do what I was able to before, and probably wouldn't be able to even if I tried...
Ichika: Since I used to just let my actions speak for themselves back then, I may've even had a much easier time writing lyrics...
Miku: ——♪ ——♪
Miku: Hm...?
Miku: Oh, is that...?

Miku: Oh, Ichika, you're still here...?
Ichika: Miku...
Miku: Hm...?
Miku: Is something the matter? Anything bothering you?
Ichika: Not quite but...
Miku: ...
Miku: Ichika, there's something I'd like to show you. Would you mind coming with me?
Ichika: Huh?

Miku: Here, this is it...
Ichika: Huh? It's... A ball of light...?
Ichika: Did a star fall and... No, that can't be possible.
Miku: Hehe. This is a fragment of a feeling. I noticed it while playing my guitar just now.
Ichika: A fragment of a feeling?
Miku: Yes. It's not quite ready to become its own SEKAI yet, but it's here nonetheless...
Miku: However, I am fairly certain that it was drawn to this SEKAI because of your feelings and that of your friends', Ichika.
Ichika: Oh, that can happen...?
Miku: Would you like to try touching it?
Ichika: Huh? But...
Miku: Don't worry, it's perfectly safe.
Miku: You may even find the answers you've been looking for by doing so.
Ichika: What kinds of answers...?
Miku: Who knows?
Ichika: Okay...
Ichika: Huh?! S-So bright...!

Side Story 2

 ???
Miku's Voice: Ichika...
Miku's Voice: Ichika, try opening your eyes...
Ichika: Hmm...
Ichika: Huh...?
Ichika: What?! This is that park...! Where we saw that meteor shower! H-How...?!
Ichika: And you're here, Miku, which means... This isn't real?
Miku: Yes. You touched “somebody's” fragment of a feeling just now, I believe?
Miku: In simple terms, this is what it wants to show you... As an incomplete SEKAI of sorts...
Miku: Don't worry, you'll be able to return to your SEKAI shortly.
Ichika: O-Okay...
Ichika: (Miku said that this is “somebody's” fragment of a feeling but...)
Ichika: (This is the place where we...)
Miku: Hehe. You seem to already know where we are.
Ichika: *Gasp* That means this place is...!
Miku: Didn't I mention how you may be able to find the answer you were looking for?
Miku: Since we're here, why don't we go for a little walk?
Ichika: Okay, sure...

Miku: What do you think? Is it the same park? Is this where you and your friends saw that meteor shower?
Ichika: Hmm... Everything looks familiar, but the playground isn't quite the same.
Ichika: But the jungle gym is exactly how I remember it.
Ichika: For example, the second step from the bottom... Oh, here! There should be something doodled there.
Miku: Oh, you're right. It's there.
Ichika: Hehe. Apparently, this boy from our elementary school drew it, but he used a permanent marker so it's been there ever since.
Ichika: Saki and I came here after she started coming back to school, and talked about how this place never really changes after seeing what was left of it.
Miku: ...
Ichika: Miku?
Miku: You all climbed on top of this jungle gym to see the meteor shower, right?
Ichika: Um, Miku?
Miku: Phew. It may not be the biggest jungle gym, but the view up here certainly is nice...
Ichika: Right. One, two...
Miku: How's the view from up top?
Ichika: Well, it isn't quite the same as the real thing... It's different but still the same...
Miku: Yes, I see...
Ichika: Hm? Is something the matter?
Miku: I was just thinking about what this all means. The meaning behind what this fragment is showing us, you know?
Ichika: The meaning behind what we're seeing?
Miku: Yes. This place must have some sort of meaning since it's so similar to the place from your memories.
Miku: And what you said just now may have given me the answer.
Miku: This place may be trying to tell us about things that are “different, but still the same”.
Ichika: Different, but still the same...

Miku: Yes.
Miku: I think you'll agree with me when I say how you and the others have gradually changed over time...
Miku: But this place, the park where it all began, hasn't changed one bit.
Miku: This view and this jungle gym may be trying to represent that.
Ichika: We ourselves may have changed, but our feelings haven't...
Ichika: Yes, I agree... I think I know what you're talking about.
Ichika: But...
Ichika: I feel like I was able to do so much more back then, and I can't do any of that anymore...
Ichika: Compared to my current self, my past self seemed so much more...
Miku: Ichika...
Miku: This may sound a bit strange since I don't know what you were like back then...
Miku: But I refuse to believe that your past self is more amazing than your current self.
Ichika: Huh...?
Miku: I mean, you had the courage to face Honami and Shiho, and tell them exactly how you felt.
Miku: Not only that, you've managed to overcome quite a few other hurdles since then.
Miku: Through thick and thin, you persevered and never shied away from those challenges.
Miku: You've come so far, Ichika, and I'm sure your past self would agree with me on that.
Ichika: Miku...
Miku: And the part about not being able to do what you used to be able to doesn't seem quite right either.
Miku: I mean, there's just so much that only the current you is capable of now.
Ichika: ...!
Ichika: That only I'm capable of...?
Ichika: You think so? Are you sure?
Miku: Yes, I am.
Miku: Because, “You're the most amazing person ever, Ichi!”
Ichika: What?! Oh no, Miku, you too...?
Ichika & Miku: Hehe...
School SEKAI
Miku: We're back...
Ichika: I wish we could've stayed a little longer and kept watching.
Miku: Yes, but it was still fun.
Miku: I'm also glad that I was able to see something so precious.
Ichika: Miku...
Ichika: Thank you. You and that place taught me something very important today.
Ichika: I'm still not entirely sure what it is that my current self is truly capable of...
Ichika: But I feel like I can have a little more confidence in myself now.
Ichika: So...
Ichika: I'll keep trying my best to write lyrics that reflect who I am.
Miku: Great. I'll be looking forward to seeing them, Ichika.
