This Spring, With You...

Side Story 1

Kanade's Room
Kanade: ...
Kanade: No, a piano won't work here... It needs something stronger...
Kanade: Maybe I can test out a few more sounds. Once this part's done...
Honami's Voice: Ms. Yoisaki, dinner's ready!
Yoisaki Household - Kitchen
Kanade: Thank you as always, Ms. Mochizuki.
Honami: Hehe. I'm just doing my job. Please, while everything's still warm.
Kanade: Okay... Oh, is that a branch from a cherry tree in that bottle?
Honami: Yes, it is. I came across it by a park on my way over here.
Honami: Some children were playing catch and they accidentally broke this branch off.
Kanade: It even has buds that look like they're ready to bloom...
Honami: Exactly. That's why it seemed like such a shame to just leave it be...
Kanade: (I knew that Ms. Mochizuki's an incredibly kind person, but I didn't realize that even extended to animals and plants.)
Kanade: But this branch is so thin. Do you think it'll still bloom like this?
Honami: Oh, about that. I did some research and read that if you put it in water with some fertilizer mixed in, it'll still have a chance to bloom.
Honami: My mother and I do some gardening at home, so we have plenty of fertilizer. I went back to get some to try this method out.
Kanade: Housework, cooking and gardening? You must be superwoman.
Honami: No, we just grow some herbs in small planters, so it's really nothing special.
Honami: And please excuse me. I've been talking your ear off, haven't I...?
Kanade: No, it's okay. I'm not much of a talker, and I like hearing about what you do, Ms. Mochizuki.
Kanade: (Cherry blossoms, huh...?)
Kanade: (When I was little, mom, dad and I went to see them together. I only remember that they were really beautiful...)
Kanade: (I wish we could see them again...)
Kanade: ...
Kanade: Um, Ms. Mochizuki? If this branch does end up blooming, would you mind showing me?
Honami: Oh, of course! I'll do my best to make sure it does!
One week later
Honami: Ms. Yoisaki, I brought it over as promised!
Kanade: Oh, they really bloomed...!
Honami: Yes, but one of the buds just wouldn't open up. Luckily, all the other ones turned into cherry blossoms just fine!
Kanade: (I never knew that they could still bloom like this even after what happened to it...)
Kanade: Ms. Mochizuki, would it be okay if I borrowed this for a little while? There's someone I'd like to show this to...
Honami: Hehe. You can have it, Ms. Yoisaki. My original plan was to place it somewhere in your room once it managed to bloom.
Kanade: Really? Are you sure?
Honami: Yes, of course. I even brought you some extra fertilizer water to make sure it stays healthy for as long as possible.
Honami: As long as you keep giving it that, you should be able to enjoy it for a good while longer.
Kanade: Ms. Mochizuki... But why...?
Honami: Because you had such a gentle look in your eyes just now when you saw this. It felt like it meant much more to you then it did to me...
Kanade: ...
Honami: I apologize if I'm assuming too much...
Kanade: No, I really appreciate it...
Kanade: Thank you. I promise to take good care of it.
The next day
Hospital
Kanade: Dad, I brought you a change of clothes...
Kanade: (He's sleeping again. To be fair, it is nice and warm out today...)
Kanade: There's also something I want to show you...
Kanade: Here, some cherry blossoms. A very good friend of mine gave them to me...
Kanade: I hope you still remember... That time we went to see them with mom...
Kanade: ...
Kanade: Maybe someday, we can go again together...

Side Story 2

Kanade's Room
Kanade: All that's left is to see what everybody thinks, make adjustments based on that and our next song should be ready...
Kanade: Phew...
Kanade: I'll have to start thinking about the next song too...
Kanade: ...
???: ♪――――
Kanade: (That song I heard on the way back from the hospital was so nice...)
Kanade: (The guitarist did a good job too. Some parts sounded a little unrefined, but it felt both powerful and kind at the same time...)
Kanade: (I doubt I could create the same sound even if I had the music in front of me...)
Kanade: (Only the person who was playing that can probably create the atmosphere I felt...)
Kanade: Powerful but kind, and a hint of doubt...
Kanade: Ah...
Kanade: (This should turn into a good melody.)
Kanade: Oh, it's almost time...
Kanade: <Are you all here?>
Mafuyu: <Yes...>
Mizuki: <Yup. Right here♪>
Ena: <I've just been working on my own part, but what's the plan for today?>
Kanade: <That should be fine for now. But can I ask you to give something a listen before you do?>
Mizuki: <Oh! Did you think of something for the song after the next one?>
Kanade: <I did. It's far from done, but I'd like to hear what you all think.>
Ena: <Sure, why not? Just give me a second.>
Kanade: <How is it...?>
Ena: <You made this the same way you always do, K...?>
Kanade: <Huh? Yes, I did but... Was something off about it?>
Ena: <No, nothing like that. The melody feels like something you'd come up with but...>
Mafuyu: <Having such a bright and happy opening seems rare coming from you, K.>
Mafuyu: <At the same time, there seemed to be some deeper meaning behind this melody...>
Mizuki: <Yeah, that! I can't put my finger on it, but didn't it feel like it was trying to encourage you or something?>
Kanade: <...>
???: ♪――――
Kanade: <Actually, it's based off something I heard a street performer play the other day.>
Kanade: <The sound felt like something only they could produce and I kind of liked it...>
Kanade: <I wanted to capture that feeling somehow and create a melody that reflected my impression of that performance.>
Mizuki: <Ahh, okay...>
Kanade: <But if it deviates too far from what we usually make as N25, I'll scrap it...>
Ena: <No, I think it'll be fine. It might actually even end up being a nice little surprise.>
Mizuki: <Yeah, totally♪>
Kanade: <Yuki, what do you think...?>
Mafuyu: <Your decision...>
Kanade: <Okay...>
Mafuyu: <But...>
Mafuyu: <I'd like to hear it once all the way through.>
Kanade: <Okay, I understand. Let's make this one together...>
Mizuki: <Alright! Now you gotta give us the full version of this song!>
Kanade: <I will.>
A few days later
Yoisaki Household - Kitchen
Honami: Hello, Ms. Yoisaki. Shall I start cooking and cleaning as always?
Kanade: Yes, please.
Kanade: Oh, Ms. Mochizuki. I need to thank you for the cherry blossoms from the other day...
Kanade: They've all wilted and the branch has sort of dried out...
Kanade: But I was able to show it to the person I was hoping to most.
Honami: Really? I'm glad I could help.
Kanade: You did...
Kanade: (Thank you so much...)
