Through Pain And Misery

Side Story 1

Ena's Room
Ena: (I made everyone worry again...)
Ena: (But...)

Ena: It's like all that time I was gone has come back to haunt me.
Ena: Everyone else seems to know exactly how to draw what they want to draw...
Ena: While I'm so far behind that I'm struggling to do even the most basic things...
Ena: My mind's telling me to just keep drawing and doing whatever I can to get better.
Ena: But my body can't handle it... Every time I go, I start shaking because I'm so scared of going to that class.
Ena: I can't do what the others can do and I know I'm never going to receive positive criticism. More than anything, I can't forgive myself for letting this all happen...
Ena: I keep asking myself, "Why did I run away that time...?"
Kanade: I don't think you were running away from anything, Ena.
Kanade: It may be true that drawing illustrations for N25 won't necessarily give you opportunities to learn anything new or improve your skills.
Kanade: But in my opinion, your art has improved compared to when we first met. It's clear that you're always looking for the best way to illustrate the music Mafuyu and I make.
Mizuki: I've recently been catching myself thinking just how much I like what you draw, Ena. You have this way of conveying so many different feelings all at once.
Mafuyu: But I remember being confused by your old illustrations in terms of what you were trying to express because of how you used odd colors and bent lines.
Mafuyu: I'm still confused sometimes, but I understand your art better than before.
Rin: But if you really felt like running away, I doubt you would've drawn all these things.
Ena: (I feel a little better thanks to them...)
Ena: (Knowing that I have their support is pretty big, huh?)
Ena: (I mean, the last time I was pushed into a corner...)
Mizuki: <Whoa, this one's from forever ago! You know, I never really get tired of seeing this girl and her floral hairpiece.>
Kanade: <Right. The girl's body is turned the other way, but the background and flowers on her hair piece make you think about what sort of expression she may have.>
Kanade: <This was from when we made that song that made very different impressions on each person that listened to it.>
Kanade: <That was why I wanted you to draw something that reflected that and also had the same effect. In the end, it matched perfectly with the song.>
Ena: <But I remember that I took too long designing the whole thing and made us upload later than usual.>
Kanade: <No, this was definitely worth the time. There's also...>
Kanade: <Yes... I thought that I should actually tell you.>
Kanade: <That your artwork isn't just an accessory.>
Ena: (I was so happy that time...)
Ena: ...
Ena: I have to keep trying...
Ena: (I want to learn how to really illustrate the songs Kanade and Mafuyu make for us.)
Ena: (For the sake of our videos too since Mizuki needs my illustrations to put them together...)
Ena: ...
Ena: Just keep drawing...
Ena: (I'm probably not gonna hear anything positive next time from Mr. Yukihira...)
Ena: (But...)
Ena: (I know that running away won't lead me anywhere good now.)
Ena: So I...

Father: I'm saying that you'll keep feeling this pain if you choose to continue drawing...
Father: You won't always be able to produce works that satisfy you. Can you deal with that pain moving forward?
Ena: I'm done running...
Ena: But this won't stop happening as long as I keep drawing...
Ena: Haha. This is gonna hurt, huh...?
Ena: (Still...)

Ena: (The others believe in me.)
Ena: (More importantly, I want to keep drawing.)
Ena: ...
Ena: Alright...
Ena: I'll pick this back up tomorrow.

Side Story 2

Ena's Room
Ena: Hmm... What should I draw for my sketch?
Ena: (Something that lets me work on texturing... Oh, my brush and palette should do nicely.)
Ena: (While I'm at it, I can throw some paint on my palette...)
Ena: Alright, time to draw. My brush, palette and paint should force me to really think about the texture for each.
Ena: I need to be more observant like Mr. Yukihira said and not go overboard with my shadowing.
Ena: (When's the last time I worked on basic stuff like this...?)

Ena: D-Do you think I can get better...?
Ena: I kept running away from art... I regret doing that, but I was so sure that it was too late for me... And yet...
Yukihira: I do not know how or if you will improve...
Yukihira: But that door will remain open as long as you're willing to face your own art.
Ena: ...!
Ena: (Ultimately, it's all up to me. I won't get better unless I put in the effort...)
Ena: Alright...

25:00:00
Kanade: <Are we all here...?>
Mafuyu: <Yes...>
Mizuki: <I'm here too... Which just leaves... Enanan?>
Ena: <I'm here, I'm here. Relax.>
Kanade: <Okay. Hello, Enanan. About what you'll be doing today...>
Ena: <I'm gonna continue working on the rough draft for my illustration since I'm keeping you all waiting.>
Ena: <I know I've wasted a bunch of time already, but I need you all to wait a little bit longer. I promise to get it done this week.>
Kanade: <Oh... You don't have to rush, Enanan. Just draw at your own pace.>
Ena: <Thanks, K.>
Ena: <But I'll be fine. My mind's already made up and I'm gonna finish it this week.>
Kanade: <Okay... I'll be looking forward to seeing what you draw.>
Ena: <Thanks!>
Ena: <Amia... I know I'm causing you the most trouble, but I need you to bear with me for just a bit longer.>
Mizuki: <Okay! Don't forget to say something if you ever get stuck again, alright?>
Ena: <Thanks, I will.>
Ena: <That goes for you too, Yuki. I still haven't forgotten about that question you asked. "Is this really everything you're trying to say?">
Mafuyu: <Okay, good luck.>
Ena: <Why do I get the feeling that you don't care at all...?>
Mizuki: <Haha!>
Ena: (In terms of composition... I've tried framing it a few different ways, but this seems like the best choice.)
Ena: (Now, back to my basics...)
Ena: (Think about depth and distances... The edges and contrast too. There's a lot of room for improvement...)

Ena: Ugh... It's already this late! Why did I pick today to be a complete slowpoke?
Ena: (I'll just keep wearing these while I continue what I started this afternoon!)
Ena: (I'm finally getting close to what I've been trying to draw this whole time.)
Ena: (But it still looks pretty flat... I need to make it clear that there's a third dimension.)

Ena: (Much better...)
Ena: (This might be a bit much for a rough draft...)
Ena: (No, I've made everyone wait long enough. I should just keep at it and work out all these details while I can.)
Ena: (What else is left...?)
A few days later at 25:00
Ena: <So... What do you think...?>
Kanade: <I think it's good...>
Ena: <...!>
Mizuki: <Yeah, me too. It's way easier to tell what you're trying to say compared to before!>
Ena: <Thank goodness...!>
Ena: <Y-Yuki... What do you think?>
Mafuyu: <I think... It's easier to understand...>
Ena: <You do?! Yes!>
Kanade: <I'll send over my comments after I've had a closer look at it.>
Mizuki: <You did it, Enanan! Nice work!>
Ena: <I'm so relieved! Thanks, K, Amia!>
Ena: <That includes you too, Yuki. Don't pull any punches, okay?>
Mafuyu: <I won't.>
Ena: <Good.>
Ena: (To be completely honest, I'm still not happy with it...)
Ena: (But this is all that I'm capable of right now.)
Ena: (Mr. Yukihira was right. I need to relearn the basics and actually study this stuff...)
Ena: (I have to if I'm gonna have any hope of producing illustrations that do Kanade and Mafuyu's songs justice!)
