Side Story 1

Shibuya Instrument Day Venue
Kanade: I'm glad we were able to get here without getting lost. Thank you for looking up the best route from the station, Mafuyu.
Mafuyu: But we got here much earlier than I was expecting...
Kanade: It's better than being late and having to rush over. I mean, I'm such a terrible runner.
Kanade: Anyway, where is the concert being held?
Mafuyu: The hall itself is apparently to our left.
Mafuyu: But this pamphlet says that the waiting line is straight up ahead from here.
Kanade: Oh, you're right... It tells us exactly where to wait.
Kanade: Then, why don't we take a look at some of the booths on our way over?
Mafuyu: Okay...
Kanade: They have so many different instruments here.
Mafuyu: Yes, they do...
Clerk A: Here, try plucking this string using your pick.
Boy: Wow! Did you see that? I got it to make a sound!
Boy's Brother: Yeah, I saw. But I know you can do better than that. Try plucking it harder next.
Boy: Okay!
Mafuyu: ...
Clerk B: Oh, you were in your school's brass band?
Woman: Yes. I haven't played at all since high school, but I've been thinking about picking it back up again, since my children are all grown up now.
Young Man A: Huh? Why are you able to play that so well?
Young Man B: Because I work hard every day?
Young Man A: Haha! Seriously, tell me!
Mafuyu: (Everyone's laughing and smiling...)
Kanade: Is something the matter, Mafuyu?
Kanade: Oh, are all these different sounds bothering you...?
Mafuyu: No, that's not a problem.
Mafuyu: (This all reminds me of...)
Mafuyu: I'm sorry, Mom...
Mafuyu: I'll give up on music...
Mafuyu's Mother: That means you don't need this synthesizer anymore, right? I'll hold onto it for now.
Mafuyu: <My dad brought it back over for me today.>
Mizuki: <That's great news...!>
Ena: <Now you can go back to writing lyrics and mixing songs without having to borrow K's.>
Mafuyu: <I can...>
Mafuyu: (What is this feeling that's stirring within my chest?)
Mafuyu: I'm not sure, but... I don't think they're bothering me.
Kanade: That's good...
Kanade: Oh... They have a piano over there that anyone can play.
Mafuyu: You're right...
Kanade: Shall we try playing it like we did during Shibuya Festa?
Mafuyu: Okay.
Kanade: Oh, excuse me. We'd like to try playing this piano.
Clerk C: Yes, please go right ahead!
Kanade: What would you like to play?
Mafuyu: The same thing we did that time.
Kanade: Okay. Then, I'll start.
Clerk C: ...!
Mafuyu: (This is so strange...)
Mafuyu: (Playing an instrument like this really puts me at ease.)
Attendees: Hey, someone's playing the piano.
Attendees: Such a beautiful song... I wonder what it's called?

Kanade: Phew... I wasn't sure I'd be able to play it properly, since it's been so long...
Kanade: Huh?! Where did all these people come from?
Girl: You two were really good!
Mafuyu: Hehe. Thank you.

Kanade: That was a surprise... I didn't think people would start gathering around us.
Mafuyu: ...
Mafuyu: Kanade...
Kanade: Hm?
Mafuyu: Thank you... For inviting me to play.
Kanade: You're welcome.
Kanade: And the concert will be starting soon, so why don't we go line up for it?
Mafuyu: Okay.

Side Story 2

Kanade's Room
Mafuyu: Kanade, it's almost 25:00.
Kanade: Oh, you're right. I need to log into Nightcord.
Mizuki: <There she is! How's it going?>
Ena: <Is Yuki with you?>
Mafuyu: <She is.>
Kanade: <Now that we're all here, why don't we get started?>
Ena: <Unfortunately, we're all waiting on Amia to finish editing the video.>
Mizuki: <Yeah, yeah, I'm working on it. The rest of you can talk about when we're gonna have our after-party, since you're so free.>
Ena: <That's fine, but I kinda want to hear about the convention you two went to, K.>
Mizuki: <Yeah, me too! How was it?>
Kanade: <Oh, so... Quite a lot happened...>
Mafuyu: <Yes, quite a lot...>
Ena: <Then, pick some of it and tell us.>
Mafuyu: <We saw that they had a public piano set up, so K and I decided to play something together.>
Ena: <Wait, together? As in four hands?>
Mafuyu: <Yes, we played K's song, like we did during Shibuya Festa... And before we realized it, a lot of people had gathered around us.>
Mizuki: <Haha! It's hard not to notice two people playing together.>
Ena: <And the songs K plays are always really pretty.>
Ena: <What did those people do after you finished playing? Nothing weird, I hope.>
Mafuyu: <They applauded...>
Kanade: <It was actually a little embarrassing.>
Ena: <Wait, that's it? I was sort of hoping to hear about them swarming you.>
Mizuki: <I'm glad that they were all polite.>
Mizuki: <Anyway, you said a lot happened. Tell us more. Anything fun or interesting?>
Mafuyu: <They held a quiz contest during the concert. K and I got every question right.>
Mizuki: <What?! All of them?!>
Kanade: <They had quite a few questions about chords and double notes played on different instruments. The goal was to identify them.>
Kanade: <But plenty of other people also got every question right. I have a feeling that they were meant to be easy to answer.>
Ena: <Still, that's really impressive.>
Mizuki: <Yeah! So, did you win anything?>
Mafuyu: <We received some vouchers for one of the shops in the food court...>
Kanade: <But we didn't end up using them.>
Ena: <Wait, why? Were neither of you hungry?>
Kanade: <So, after the concert, we met this boy who really liked to play the trumpet...>

Ena: <So he couldn't make it sound good, huh...>
Ena: <They do say all wind instruments, not just trumpets, can be really hard to play unless you know the right tricks.>
Kanade: <We didn't know much about wind instruments either, so we decided to take him over to a booth with a demo area where he could try playing one.>
Mafuyu: <Shiraishi and Aoyagi were working at that booth.>
Mizuki: <What?! Why?!>
Mafuyu: <They knew the manager, and were lending him a hand by helping with the customers.>
Ena: <Really? Toya helping customers? I would have liked to see that!>
Mizuki: <Me too! I bet he did a great job of explaining stuff in a really polite manner!>
Kanade: <He did. He even did a tremendous job with the boy we'd brought over.>
Kanade: <The boy was ready to give up on the trumpet, but Aoyagi convinced him to keep trying. We actually ended up all practicing together.>
Mafuyu: <He treated that boy very well.>
Mizuki: <Yeah, I bet.>
Mizuki: <Whenever I go back to school after a while away, he's always there to tell me how far the class has progressed for math and other subjects♪>
Mizuki: <He even tells me about the things the teachers say are gonna be on upcoming tests, which has been super helpful.>
Ena: <Aren't you relying on him a little too much, Amia?>
Mizuki: <Man, a lot really did happen! Thanks for telling us, you two! That was really fun♪>
Mafuyu: <You're welcome...>
Ena: <Actually, Yuki... Why don't you tell your dad this story the next time you meet him?>
Mafuyu: <Huh...?>
Mizuki: <Hey, that's a great idea! I bet he'd feel a lot better knowing that you're having fun with K.>
Mafuyu: <...>
Mafuyu: <You think so?>
Kanade: <If you feel comfortable, Yuki, then I also think you should try telling him.>
Mafuyu: <...>
Mafuyu: <Okay... I'll try to tell him the next chance I get...>
